    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

THANK YOU! Nota_bene: BACKUP your /opt/etc/syslog-ng.conf BEFORE doing this! (ask me how I know, good thing I'm paranoid about backups) If the "@version:" doesn't have a number after the ":", scribe will HOSE your syslog-ng.conf file. Obviously this is a problem with scribe, I'll figure it...

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

Great. That's an error with syslog-ng, which is really starting to test my patience. I can't do anything about it, and I don't even know which thing that got updated is the cause, or how to roll it back. I don't know if it's the fault of syslog-ng, or whichever package made it break, but it...

script writers: what programs _don't_ need to be explicitly called?

Oh, sure, point out the incredibly obvious and easy way to do it AFTER I've sed'ed my way through scribe. :p

script writers: what programs _don't_ need to be explicitly called?

I know I'm kinda late to the table on this, but I'm going through scribe with sed to directly call most of the busybox commands. There are some I've not bothered to though, I'm curious what the other script writers think. I've (tried to) explicitly call out everything except [, true, false...

Scribe Entware coreutils-uname breaks scribe installer

Sorry to post on such an old thread ... Who would get to decide what to prevent from being installed? I purposely install and use the entware less over the firmware version, and someone may want to use the extra features of say gnu grep over the busybox implementation. Maybe the firmware...

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

So, what scribe does is install a program called syslog-ng, which helps split the cluttered system log file into smaller, more focused logs. If you never look at or care to understand the logfile, there's really no point to running scribe. Note that the purpose of scribe is to help people who...

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

Hrm. I searched my logs and I have nothing like that. And I've been using upgrade a lot to test the explicit paths that will be coming in 2.5_0. I looked around in uiScribe where that message is generated, and I'm not sure what may have tripped that. Jack Yaz is your man there.

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

Yeah, I read that and saw the discussion on where to put /opt in PATH. I'm of the it should be at the end by default camp, i.e. do the least harm. But personally, I put mine at the beginning, because I'm careful about what I install. Hence why I wanted feedback from people that don't have...

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

Has anyone fixed their PATH so busybox grep is the one that's called (i.e. deleted the /opt/... directories from the font of the path)? If so, can I assume this doesn't create problems? It's been so long, I don't think I have anything that relies on gnu grep, but I don't want to push something...

    Scribe Scribe 2.4.4 is out

Pushed scribe 2.4.4 Fixes the gnu grep "stray \ before /" warning, probably the "wrong" way, by fixing it for gnu grep rather than forcing busybox grep ... Somewhere along the line, syslog-ng.ctl and syslog-ng.pid files path was changed to /opt/var/run/syslog-ng; if you were upgrading that...

Scribe Entware coreutils-uname breaks scribe installer

Thanks Jack. Of course this happens at the END of my 2 week break when I'm going back to work tomorrow. Worse, I never reinstalled Git desktop when I built my new 'puter last year. I think that since it seems to be unique to installing Entware uname, I will fix it, but it may take a couple...

    High RAM memory usage AC86U

My AC86U runs ~94% "used" memory constantly, and I almost never reboot between Merlin releases, and I have none of the problems you're having. I know I've had uptimes well in excess of a month. If I do reboot between Merlin releases, I can't remember the last time I did for any reason other...

    High RAM memory usage AC86U

I think maybe you're asking how much flash memory your router has, not how much ram it has. Once you've ssh'd into your router, type 'df -h' - your scripts (and some other stuff) are stored in the /jffs mount point; for instance, on my router, I have: # df -h Filesystem Size...

    Anyone get OpenSSH (entware) working?

It's been almost 4 years, so I don't remember the details, but I do remember figuring out it was a bad idea. There was IIRC a real reason not to do it. I do not remember at all what that was.

    Scribe Installing on John's fork

So, here's the thing. I hazily recall there was a reason for setting 380.68 as the lowest, but whatever it was is either lost to me, or I'm misremembering and there wasn't a reason other than I copied it from someone else's code. Troubleshooting weird stuff in regular Merlin has proven...

Scribe WARNING: Configuration file format is too old, syslog-ng is running in compatibility mode.

Not really so much back as dropping by. I'm hoping to be "back" over the next few months. I've made notes of the above.

Scribe WARNING: Configuration file format is too old, syslog-ng is running in compatibility mode.

Oh joy, they're not updating the documentation now? Or maybe they just moved it?

    Scribe scribe and Entware

It's a catch-22, if I don't change the .conf file, people complain about it saying it's running in compatibility mode. And I can't expect people to go and manually change the configuration file version when they decide it's okay. Actually one of the other places in the conf file I do need to...
