WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

@L&LD Thank you very much for thorough information/sharing of your professional experience. I like the step by step progression/evolution of the home network. It's really entertaining to read (yes I'm a geek). I must have come across wrong way. I actually do agree with your points and...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

@Trip Thanks for clarifications. MU-MIMO is interesting as I just going off by what I read and conceptually make sense, but I must admit, I don't know if I ever tried to test this nor feel like experienced the benefit myself. For AiMesh I had to turn it off for better stability. Overhead...

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

Thank you for sharing your experience as well. At this point, I agree waiting for 6E seems a way to go.

UniFi's first WiFi 6 Access Point is coming soon

Please forgive me if this has already been posted. I've done search and didn't see one so assume it hasn’t been discussed or shared here yet. UAP-6L has been filed on FCC couple weeks ago. In summary, I gathered UAP-6L will be: UniFi’s first WiFi 6 compatible Access Point No WiFi 6E No WiFi...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

Eero I believe you may not give you even a choice but single SSID as its Mesh system.UniFi, you can name anyway but if you want to have just smooth single WiFi, which I believe you do i.e. walk from one end of home to another without physically selecting new SSID, you just have one SSID. People...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

Yes. That's correct, and the stability just make whole experience far better. Technically speaking single client device speed, 2x2 and 4x4 router shouldn't make difference as long as client is 2x2 but with multiuser MIMO, 4x4 theoretically should allow one to have TWO 2x2 client at max speed...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

Thanks. Yeah, it's easy for us (including myself obviously) to go with NUMBERS on the box, and that's what consumer network products are doing. But I think the Duckware's article is amazing. It is the one really made sense to me, but it is probably too much geek reading for the most.

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

I've sold Eero a while back and back when I had them, I only had wireless mesh option + 200-300 internet service in my area. Now I have all wired AP connection, and 1 Gbps download so I cannot do real apple to apple comparison. Let's make sure we are on the same track. 300Mbps label on nanoHD...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

I replied to other thread, but don't go for HD. It's an overkill. I've also put wrong link for my UniFi review, so I updated it if you want to read it, but it's pretty much what I already said in longer, wordy form.

    Unifi HD vs Nano

I see you created a new thread. :) UniFi has underwhelming spec, but it works. Its coming from someone (me) who goes off by spec and latest technology all the time. I got HD and NanoHD. First I got HD so I could test all its potential and if didn't perform I was going to return. Next I got...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

I ended up with UniFi myself (my early UniFi review) but I think others can serve well. You basically want 4x4 MU-MIMO, WiFi 5 Wave 2 system. WiFi 6, I personally think is not only too early, but I think it may be underperforming against good WiFi 5 system (my experience 1 & 2). Basically, I...

    Asus GT-AX11000 router

I did not know better, and Google drives what we see!! :) But in regarding to his speed test result (at least), I agree would be very careful.

    Asus GT-AX11000 router

I've actually bought into AiMesh because I read Dong's website, and eventually end up owning 2 x Ax11000, 2 x Ax92U, which I recently sold. He really likes Asus products. Somehow I could never get his numbers. But it's because his test are I believe generally assessing REAL capability of the...

Orbi vs Nest vs Eero Pro - Needing assistance on purchase

For my 3800 sqft home, I have owned RBK 50 (personal experience), added wall plug satellite and eventually another full satellite RBS50. The system was really unstable even firmware after firmware. So I got Eero Pro 3 packs (personal experience). They worked fantastic. For 6-7 months I had Eero...

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

I have already sold my AiMesh setup so I don't have those info anymore. But I had never explicitly set them so it was always auto setting. I know this is considered a bad habit from network enthusiasts; however, this is what a lazy network hobbyist does. :) I do not like to dig into setting for...

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

That's a good number to know. Since your setup is also WiFi 5 based and getting up to what' expected range, I interpret that as yet another example of efficient (perhaps simply more mature) WiFi 5 technology can compensate/outperform still inefficient/immature WiFi 6 system. As far as AiMesh set...

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

Thank you for constructive feedback. I’d be truly curious to see your internet speed test result along with your AiMesh setup. I often came across on internet testing with 300 Mbps internet speed and say it’s perfect but that means internet speed is the bottle neck even on wifi 5. Others have a...

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

In my case, I went for high-end Asus models so it actually turned out UniFi could have been a cheaper choice for one to one match system. Though with my obsession, I ended up spending more than AiMesh setup but I was able to sell all my AiMesh parts on eBay.

WiFi 6 was not worth it for me ~ Journey of WiFi 6 AiMesh back to WiFi 5 UniFi ~

Who is this for? I've written this to share my personal experience to those who believe WiFi 6 is the best one can get right now. Yet, your experience is not quite as impressive as you expected. Perhaps, debating WiFi 5 vs. WiFi 6 because of different reviews. This is one technophilic person's...

Max throughput of 433 mbps Link rate... Achieving 330 mbps..Can we close the gap furthermore?

That is 85% efficiency. Typical range of WIFI efficiency as you probably know is 50-70% so that’s really impressive.
