    Simple bandwidth prioritization

So you need to apply QoS according to subnet?

    Large ping spikes in games

You could use limiters to limit all non-gaming traffic to 90% so that 10% of your connection will be free for gaming. You might need to lower it below 90%. If you want to know more about QoS in general read this.

    RT-AC66U Qos not working properly

If you simply want a router that supports modern QoS that's capable of speeds above 250mbit then I'd get an EdgeRouter-X for $50 (vs $150 for the RT-AC68U) and use your RT-AC66U as just a WiFi Access Point (AP-mode).

    Asus QoS configuration guides

AsusWRT's QoS is a bit limited but for your situation you might try the bandwidth limiter feature. Limit all OpenVPN traffic to 30mbit(or slightly less)/10mbit. You need 5mbit of download bandwidth free for Netflix to achieve a 1080p stream flawlessly. You need some upload bandwidth free to...

    Asus QoS configuration guides

The best general QoS tutorial I've found is: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/qos-tutorial.68795/ Since streaming is very latency insensitive, QoS isn't really important. Even without any prioritization, Netflix will usually over-power everything else anyway except maybe bittorrent...

Asus RT-AC66 running on 100% cpu

I'd definitely try running "ps" and/or "top" via SSH/telnet. It'll show you exactly what's causing it.
  7. Nullity

Port forwarding for virtual servers is still not working properly

FTP occasionally needs work-arounds when NAT is involved. Make sure your colleagues use passive, not active.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Did you set the upload/download bandwidth to ~95% of your real-world speeds?
  9. Nullity

    Better coverage for 5 ghz

2.4ghz is better for range & obstacle penetration. 2.4ghz is slower than 5ghz but Netflix 4k only requires 25mbit so 2.4ghz should be capable of multiple, simultaneous streams.

Was my router's username and password hacked?

Yeah. The problem in this thread seems to be that people exposed the httpd GUI to the WAN.

[SOLVED] Unable to run e2fsck /dev/sdb1 is in use

"fuser" can show you who's using it.

unfinished boot after software-reboot with long uptime

Do you see anything interesting in the logs?
  13. Nullity

Was my router's username and password hacked?

Yeah, but most have said that the non-standard httpd was the exploited service, which isn't found in generic Linux installs, unless they exploited some code that was inherited from the upstream httpd (lighttpd?). It'd be rather embarassing if some generic web-scraper was able to steal the...

Was my router's username and password hacked?

You changed the admin username? I thought the admin username was kinda hard-wired. Is the admin username non-existant on your device?
  15. Nullity

what even ARE all the modern open source router options?

The only problem I see with pfSense (FreeBSD) is the lack of modern QoS, since you mentioned QoS as a priority. Ultimately this probably isn't a problem if you configure the QoS optimally but it's something to be aware of. pfSense doesn't have fq_codel or many of the other algorithms released...
  16. Nullity

    Bandwidth limiting?

fq_codel It's a combination of Fair Queueing and a de-bufferbloating AQM. Codel is only an AQM and SFQ is only Fair Queueing.

    httpd Crashes on Some Pages

Any logs showing why it crashes? I would try the Factory Default. It should only take a few minutes to manually reconfigure the required things then once the network is back online you can tweak & fix the non-vital details with minimal downtime. Maybe try...

Rockstor - an alternative to FreeNAS

Yeah, I tested btrfs about a year ago and while running fsck (or something similarly safe) I hit ctrl-c, which with most things it would have failed gracefully but it didn't. Irreparable file-system corruption. It's neat, but I wouldn't want to use it in a NAS setup where stability is vital.
  19. Nullity

Traffic Analyzer-router comes up as client?

I assume that it's referring to traffic originating from the RT-AC68U, like maybe dnsmasq or checking for firmware updates.
  20. Nullity

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

For QoS to work, you must be able to control the device that is the bandwidth bottleneck.
