Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Quick feedback on 386.39485 with RT-AX92U from a dirty upgrade from 384. The prrevious 386 have non-functioning Internet on mesh node which is fixed. Noticed that my Apple devices actually roam quicker than before. Seems to be connected to the 5Ghz band more consistently where previously it...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

802.11k/v is now enabled for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz-1 band for RT-AX92U. With smart connect enabled, band steering and roaming is more reliable and much faster on supported devices (iPhone 11 Pro Max)

Asus RP-AC55 is driving me nuts!

The RP-AC55 only supports lower 5Ghz channel. If your main router happen to run on higher 5Ghz channels (149 and above) you will have stability issues with RP-AC55.

    RT-AX92U vs RT-AX88U

ASUS marketing is misleading as the RT-AX92U is not a full Wi-Fi 6 router. Only the second 5Ghz band can support Wi-Fi 6. The 2 remaining bands are plain old Wi-Fi 5 with poor performance. It has only 512MB RAM compared to 1GB on the RT-AX88U with a slower dual-core CPU.

Wi Fi problems with iPad Air (2019)

It is possible that your iPad is broken. Try using it without a case if you have one. Hold it differently and see if it improve the situation.

    Asus Aimesh any good?

AiMesh roaming performance is horrible. The AP steering is buggy and there's no 802.11k/v/r support. I wouldn't consider something without fast roaming to be a mesh WiFi.

Trio of new routers just hit the FCC

    RT-AX58U is Broadcom based on the pre-released hardware I have. BCM6750 Tri-Core 1.5Ghz + BCM43684 for 5Ghz 160Mhz with 512MB RAM

    ASUS PCE-AX58BT

Do you connect the USB header? You need that for the Bluetooth to work.

Blue Cave - Randomly Stops and Restarts

There is a severe bug on the Blue Cave where the NAT acceleration wasn't working sometime which lead to high CPU usage. This causes high heat production and the Blue Cave have terrible cooling and it overheats easily! My solution is to use a small 5CM USB fan and put it at the bottom right to...

Need Advice for AiMesh with AC86U primary with two AC68U nodes

Adding a switch doesn't take much load out from the router as routing is still performed at router level. A star topography will provide some redundancy if the second node is acting up. I don't think you need a switch if you only have 3 wired devices. Ideally, your NAS should be connected to the...

    Asus PCE-AC88 and Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 Module (M.2/NGFF) compatibility

ASUS PCE-AX58BT is basically the AX200 with a piece of heatsink on top.

    The issues with AiMesh

Will it be a full 802.11 k/v/r implementation or ASUS is still attempting to develop their own roaming mechanism without any PSK caching?

    RT-AX89X

I've seen the ZenWiFi during Computex this year and it certainly looks good. I also have the chance to speak to some ASUS engineer. While there are some great promises on AiMesh but knowing ASUS, I guess it wouldn't be here until next year.

    The issues with AiMesh

I have been using AiMesh on over many AiMesh models for the past year and I would like to share some thoughts on AiMesh. Opinions are my own. Discussion welcomed. Lack of proper roaming support AiMesh does not support any of the 802.11 roaming standard. ASUS is relying on their roaming...

    RT-AX89X

Personally, QSDK is definitely far superior over what Broadcom currently offers. I wish ASUS put more effort in their QCA based developments considering how much of a mess the entire Lyra lineup currently is.

    Lyra is abandonware

While that make sense, the trade off would be limiting the full capabilities of the chipset. It would be great if the Lyra exist as a separate lineup without AiMesh but powered by Qualcomm SON instead.

Looks like ROG GTAC 2900 launches soon

Basically a flashier RT-AC86U with ASUS ROG interface. They even share the same FCC ID.

    Lyra is abandonware

ASUS cannot decide whether to use the Qualcomm SON or the their proprietary AiMesh roaming protocol. Qualcomm SON is superior to AiMesh as it comes with AP steering, band steering and fast roaming support. This resulted in a crippled product with terrible firmware and poor roaming performance...
