    rt-n66u NTP intercept and server

Looks like there are valid download links in a newer thread https://www.snbforums.com/threads/fork-asuswrt-merlin-374-lts-release-52e7.76314/

Solved (Fixed) RT-AX88U Merlin 386.8 ntpMerlin Breaks NTP

Your config if fine. It is the default, so not surprising. So the culprit is likely that the DNS lookup of pool.ntp.org is not working. But if that were true, then adding the line I suggested above should have worked.

Solved (Fixed) RT-AX88U Merlin 386.8 ntpMerlin Breaks NTP

Are you using chrony or NTP? Here is my chrony.conf: # grep -Ev "^#|^%|^!|^;" /tmp/mnt/ent/entware/share/ntpmerlin.d/chrony.conf | sort -u allow 192.168.50.0/24 bindaddress 192.168.50.1 binddevice br0 driftfile /opt/var/lib/chrony/drift dumpdir /opt/var/lib/chrony dumponexit lock_all...

Solved NTS (Network Time Security) support

I don't know but suspect this is unlikely to happen. The NTP daemon is compiled into the BusyBox binary. BusyBox aggregates stripped down versions of core Linux software into one binary for the purpose of running on low powered hardware like consumer routers.

    Time is wrong.

Right, NTP synchronizes to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is the same everywhere. So minutes and seconds would be correct (unless local time is half hour adjusted like India). It is then up to the operating system to be configured for proper adjustment to local time.

    How to start NTP?

There may be as many as 4 choices for NTP: Merlin NTP client Merlin NTP server Jack Yaz NTP server Jack Yaz chrony server How to start would be different for each one. We have no way of knowing but usually this happens because DNS was not ready to do a lookup of your NTP servers.

    USB Drive problems

The approach above is solid. If you continue to have issues afterwards, then some other factor would be involved.

    USB Drive problems

I used to have entries in /etc/fstab which would successfully remount my Entware and SMB filesystems with "mount -a", but when I do that nowadays, both filesystems become unmounted! I have not figured this out yet, so I just reboot instead. Update: According to...

    USB Drive problems

I use a Samsung T5. The current model is a T7 but perhaps equivalent reliability is available from competitors at a lower price. Whether you use an SSD or thumb drive, I would recommend: An Entware partition of 8 GB Journaled ext4 Configure the filesystem to fsck nearly every reboot By...

External DNS Server customization (DNSSEC, DoT, etc) clarification question

I don't know how all of the DNS options work under the covers, but here is my take: The Enable DNSSEC support option is whether your router is handling DNSSEC directly whether or not you are using DoT I prefer Quad9 (or Comcast at bootup) to handle DNSSEC rather than my router I set Enable...

Suggestions on how to get back into router

Wow, I had not been aware of restricted Admin access before. If you know what IPs you restricted Admin access to and it is on subnet 192.168.2.x and it is not already in use, then Tech9 suggested setting your wired IP to that address manually and you should be able to connect.

Suggestions on how to get back into router

Is it plausible that your browser has a new default to use DOH (DNS over HTTPS)? That would explain why router.asus.com is not being picked up by your router. Your browser would be circumventing your router's DNS UDP port 53 and going straight to, for example, Cloudflare DNS TCP port 443...

    Quad9 reading

Odd, I did not experience any unusual SERVFAIL activity on September 6th in northeast USA. I am using 2 IPv4 and 2 IPv6 Quad 9 TLS servers. As far as distant server DNS replies, I use "Secure w/ECS support" servers which partially reveal your location to avoid this very issue...

AI Protection and other privacy policies

I use FlexQoS. FlexQoS uses the AiProtection engine for categorization of network traffic. I would not expect AiProtection to catch much because it should be caught beforehand, by the browser, for instance. While I think it is good to take steps to protect one's privacy, disabling...

What SSD disk drives work well with Asus USB 3.1?

I have been using a Samsung T5 with an RT-AX88U for about two years. I have no regrets even though most would consider it overkill. Heat will not go back and forth with a cable connected external drive. I am using the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable. I partitioned it into a small Entware...

Yes :) It makes sense in my case because the chronyd on the router has better time than I could get on the internet
