    New Router - R7800 vs AC86U - Am I Missing Anything?

Voxel is an updated, modified version of the stock firmware. OpenWRT is an opensource firmware with it's own buildsystem. Using that, you can compile you own firmware and add/modify/tweak to your hearts content. However, it would require you to be very much involved with your setup, not really a...

    New Router - R7800 vs AC86U - Am I Missing Anything?

If OpenWRT is an option for you, the R7800 is one of the best OpenWRT options at the moment. Sky is the limit with firmware options there.

    WTB: Quality WiFi Access Point

Any interest in an EnGenius AWS357AP or AWS377AP? Both are WiFi 6AP's and you con configure them directly for use on an existing network, without the need for a dedicated controller.

    Linksys WRT1900AC, WRT1900ACS, WRT1200AC and WRT3200ACM Router Debian Implementation

Maybe I am generalizing your wants too much, but I am having a hard time not seeing what you are asking for being answered by OpenWRT..... They have some good themes that come out of the box (if you compile yourself you can add them all, WRT flash is large) that give you a granular dive in from...

    Few Questions.....just bought a WRT1900AC V1

If it has a fan it's V1. The V2 WRT1900AC was actually the ACS, which had no fan.

    [Solved] USB 2.0 not working on Merlin 384.5 - AC68U infused TM-AC1900

Can you hook up the USB thumb drive to another PC and completely wipe the partition and formatting? See what happens when you plug in a virgin USB thumb drive. If it detects it okay then, we can go to the next step and try and format the drive from the router itself.

    Ubiquiti Users

Even the mobile app is accessing your devices (your "site") through the controller, at least that's how mine works. EDIT: You're right, seems it can be done via the app: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/Unifi-Control-without-a-controller/td-p/1864945 Though I will stick with my VM...

    Ubiquiti Users

I would argue that fact you don't need a controller. Without the controller, how are you adopting, config, provision your devices, one by one logging in manually and setting it all by command line?

    Ubiquiti Users

I run all unifi gear at home with a custom pfsense router. Our house is a Michigan ranch, 2000sqft with a full footprint basement. With just 1 nanoHD (MediaTek) I get excellent coverage throughout the house. Mostly drywall separating walls in the home, with the AP being located centrally on the...

    Synology RT2600ac Router Reviewed

Just food for thought, if IPS is important to you then you might want to look at taking another direction like pfsense. I built myself a smaller 4 core (8 thread) xeon build with 32GB of ram I had lying around and I use Snort (also tried Suricata which is what the Synology is using), and I am...
