Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I'm going to test it on Chromecast first. That's where I am most excited! For everyone here's benefit, Chromecast devices hardcode DNS; in order to curtail this, you will need to enable DNS Filter:

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I haven't seen a single ad on YouTube on a desktop computer in well over a decade (probably longer) because of uBlock Origin (and Adblock Plus before that). There exist several other useful extensions as well...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

You can remove them or not; they aren't hurting anything by being left behind after disabling pixelserv-tls on your router. In fact, I suggest keeping them for a little bit in the event you choose to go back.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Bail on Safari for macOS (and mobile for that matter). They have completely crippled the browser. My work and personal machines are both macOS; I use Brave as my daily driver on both (Brave is a de-Googled Chromium-based browser with ad-blocking). Even with using Brave and extensions, I would...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Huge believer in this. Ad-blocking is an approach that is multi-tiered. There is no one size fits all, but in combination, your experience gets better and better. uBlock Origin is absolutely a no-brainer. There are several others that will enhance your experience as well. Sinkholes are great...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

My understanding is that without pixelserv, the best that can be done is a 'network error' kind of scenario. In other words, the connection simply times out because it cannot establish a connection to the server. You'll get the ugly grey squares (like my avatar) but otherwise, they are still...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Diversion will block https ads even with pixelserv disabled. They just won't be replaced with a single pixel to tidy up the page and load faster. They will just timeout to 0.0.0.0 instead of being answered by pixelserv.

Asus merlin router, vpn, selective policy website routing

Hi @Xentrk , not to dig up an old thread... but I am interested in your script; I am running a RT-AC86U and here is my situation. I am in the US; I've never had a need to VPN elsewhere to watch a TV show until now; I cannot handle Bluey Season 1 on Disney+ again, so trying to watch Season 2. I...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.16 (and 384.13_6) are now available

Does anyone use/have a Schlage Sense Wi-Fi Adapter? After running the 384.16 update on my RT-AC86U, the device appears to be attached to my network, but no longer communicates with the internet and therefore no longer can control my lock when not in proximity to it...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

You have other options in desktop browsers. But as for smart TVs/Chromecast and mobile, you are going to see YouTube Ads without a content blocker. Depending on what browser you use, there are some must-have desktop extensions. Chrome: HTTPS Everywhere, uBlock Origin, Location Guard, Nano...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

It's possible with DNS filter. Set the global filter to go somewhere else upstream, like 9.9.9.9 and set each client on the network in the exceptions at the bottom. You'd be doing the opposite of what the FAQ says: https://diversion.ch/faq-reader/how-to-exclude-a-client-from-ad-blocking.html...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Removing it, I went from 93,470 domains to 83,625. I may keep it around (for now), but appreciate the heads up.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

    I am using those bottom 5. Same lists as Pi-hole out-of-the-box: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/diversion-the-router-ad-blocker.48538/page-288#post-565121

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Down to 93,470 blocked domains! We'll see how this goes, but I'm operating under the assumption it'll be fine.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I was only using them because Diversion suggests you do once you install Skynet. Are there side-effects of NOT using them other than less domains are blocked? Do you get more false positives without them?

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Time to Disable + Plus hosts I suppose. I was using a bunch of them, too. I wonder if there are any good replacements (that isn't a 1mm+ hosts list like the "large" one): https://hosts-file.net/ad_servers.txt https://hosts-file.net/emd.txt https://hosts-file.net/exp.txt...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Did malwarebytes just remove all their hosts files? I get redirected to a 404 page: https://www.malwarebytes.com/browserguardpha.txt Example: https://hosts-file.net/ad_servers.txt EDIT: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/257401-inquiry-regarding-automated-processing-of-hosts-files/

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

Works just fine without pixelserv-tls; it's not required. It is faster because it serves up a one pixel image instead of letting the https connection simply time out. But it has caused me lots of woes in the past, and I've been running very smoothly without it. I would prefer to use...

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

I have standard installed. If you go to the <ep> menu you can disable pixelserv-tls. Then it points to 0.0.0.0 (same as Lite)

pixelserv pixelserv - A Better One-pixel Webserver for Adblock

I use Diversion Standard with pixelserv-tls disabled, so essentially the same thing as Diversion Lite. No issues here other than gray boxes where ads used to be on Android. Noticed no changes with speed. Both HTTP and HTTPS domains are still blocked.
