I haven't seen a single ad on YouTube on a desktop computer in well over a decade (probably longer) because of uBlock Origin (and Adblock Plus before that).

Fair enough, I probably wasn't using the correct Filter Lists when I tried before.

I'M GETTING THERE AND IT LOOKS GOOD
PLEASE BE PATIENT OR ELSE ...
Thank you!
Take your time....we'll be here patiently waiting! Maybe I can now delete YouTube Vanced from my phone.

I'm going to test it on Chromecast first. That's where I am most excited! For everyone here's benefit, Chromecast devices hardcode DNS; in order to curtail this, you will need to enable DNS Filter:

Well, I've pushed yet another update for Diversion, and there's still no version change!

- Added experimental YouTube video ads blocking feature in b.

Please be gentle, read what it says and act like a grown up person ;)
Thanks.

Is there a down side to Vanced? I kinda like the dark theme. And SmartTube has no ads on TV sets.

YT ads blocked by Diversion is awesome, it makes the ad-free experience available to family members using stock devices. But Vanced is cool...

That app is not available for all devices. Diversion is - within your network.

Done YouTube video ad-blocking setup complete
and enabled. Have fun and enjoy!

Oh I will!! Thanks!

Oh true enough, no question that having a YT adblocker on the router is a huge get. But Kingp1n implied that he is using Vanced himself, and would delete it when Diversion offers YT adblocking. I use Vanced when not behind my Asus, too, so I was curious about how advancements in Diversion - no matter how incredibly cool - could obsolete Vanced.

Forgot to mention, the wildcard blacklist is now loaded separately in the dnsmasq.conf file.

That remains to be seen. We‘ll find out soon enough.

Just wanted to say, what a thoughtful, elegant way to implement this within Diversion. I was expecting a separate script, so to have this option available within Diversion and to have it made so easy and simple for easygoing simpletons like me is a real bonus. Great job, as always.

All I can say is it's the lonely coders way.

@thelonelycoder

Dumb question…after watching some YT videos + ads on my PC and phone, should the blacklist be updating i.e. "0" to say "1/5/10" depending on how many ads have been watched?

This manages YouTube video ad-blocking
googlevideo domains in yt_blacklist: 0

It has remained at "0" after a few hours...just checking!

This should grow to about 40 very quickly.
Use f and look for the longish *googlevideo.* domains.
They should resolve to the IP shown where it says 0.
Also, the el line shows the yt domain counter on the main Diversion menu.
