AC-86u wireless download speed is exactly half of the Ethernet speed

fast.com measures my speed as slower than other methods. speediest.net appears to be a bogus website. When I measured using www.speedtest.net I received a more accurate representation of my ISP speed. What 802.11 protocol are your devices connecting with? Are they connecting at 2.4 or 5?

AC-86u wireless download speed is exactly half of the Ethernet speed

Can you provide an overview as to how you are measuring the WiFi speed on your PC, MacBook Pro, and iMac?

Cannot access to some websites through Asus router

I concur but we just don’t have enough info to go any further in problem determination.

Cannot access to some websites through Asus router

Your laptop would have used your ISP's DNS server(s) unless you specifically configured another DNS server on your laptop. I always point my router's DNS to something other than ISP's; Google and others. From a portability perspective, it would be best to allow laptop to use DHCP for everything...

Strange Events In RT-AC86U System Log

While I cannot answer the question, it is my belief that the router will periodically look for better channels to use based on changes in all the WiFi networks within reach. So there may be a WiFi network that is also using your channel but the signal is changing every so many minutes forcing...

    Opinion's on the Asus RT-AC87

If your current router meets all your needs, I would not buy new. Historically, I have only purchased new routers because my devices had newer capability that my current router did not support. I used to take one of my older routers on vacation with me when the hotels had bad WiFi. Now, I don't...

WiFi Analyzer vs Asus - Signal Strength

@ColinTaylor is correct, apples and oranges, both fruit just different. My Mac reports a RSSI of -46 dBm but an app on the Mac reports -50 dBm. The difference is probably due to different methods used to calculate. My ASUS is reporting -58 dBm. While my receive levels are closer than yours the...

    Questions about The Connections Log....

10.0.0.1 is a commonly used IP address for gateway, modem, and other devices. You will have to ascertain what app on that computer is attempting to make that connection.

    Questions about The Connections Log....

What is the device at 192.168.1.246? I suspect an app on 192.168.1.246 is trying to connect to a device it used to connect to when the app was on a different network.

AC86U Wan Port only 100 Mbps / WAN DHCP Does Not Function Correctly

Please configure to be used in router mode, not bridge. Nothing wrong with double NAT. I believe @Smokindog found the issue.

AC86U Wan Port only 100 Mbps / WAN DHCP Does Not Function Correctly

There are two ports on the Arris, so double NAT is a possibility. I have run my ASUS in a double NAT configuration with no issue but that was with AT&T U-verse (vDSL). Consequently, I don't believe this is a double NAT issue. In my 44 years of networking experience, I have never had to...

AC86U Wan Port only 100 Mbps / WAN DHCP Does Not Function Correctly

Excellent job of problem determination! The WAN port is a LAN port from an OSI Layer 1 perspective and should negotiate the same speed unless a higher layer is impacting that negotiation. Enter "Your ISP's DHCP does not function correctly". While the issue could most certainly be the ASUS, I...

    Issue with IPv6

Here in the US I had IPv6 issues with AT&T vDSL and my ASUS 86U, I moved to Spectrum cable and IPv6 works great on my ASUS and my home network devices. The point is that IPv6 is not homogeneous between ISP and IPv6 enable devices. I am not saying it is definitely your ISP but without data...

    Issue with IPv6

I suspect it could be your ISP, SKY UK, failing to renew IPv6 DHCP address.

WAN capped at 100mb help please! asus 87u

@Klueless Actually there are several more points of failure. Let me share my current list: Cable from wall outlet to ISP equipment ISP equipment - misconfigured or broke ISP provisioning - subscribe to one speed but never provisioned by ISP or their partners Technical issue - auto-negotiate 87U...

WAN capped at 100mb help please! asus 87u

@ColinTaylor has provided an excellent diagnostic approach to your problem. Your 400Mbps ISP service should connect to a higher speed connection at the street. Between that street connection and your wall outlet should be some electronic device to reduce the speed to 400Mbps Ethernet. In most...

Tutorial Basic Vlan guide for IP or MAC isolation from others on Lan

Two possible solutions depending on what else is on your LAN: Only LAN devices are two requiring isolation Cascade another NAT router off ASUS and use a different IP network for its downstream LAN Additional LAN devices besides two requiring isolation Add a VLAN device

    Slow LAN speed bonded 802.3ad

I would plug a laptop into Spectrum directly to confirm speed. If correct speed then plug laptop into port of ASUS and check speed.

    Can 86U Handle Gigabit Speeds?

I have seen some reports of less than advertised 1 Gbps speed from some ISP. Who is your ISP? Have you tried different speed tests to different end points? Are you running speed test from Ethernet or WiFi connected device?

Modem's IP Mode: IPv6 Only -help!

I believe it is telling you that the modem is communicating to the ISP using IPv6. This should not impact you at all. While I cannot speak to your specific ISP, speed changes ordered by you may not be instantaneous. It may require rolling over to the next day, midnight maintenance kind of...
