Merlin, which router should I buy

I know it’s the OpenVPN encryption that limits the throughput. I’m curious how much of a performance increase I would see with the 88U or 86U which have faster processors than my 68U. I’m not interested in setting up a mini PC for VPN.

Merlin, which router should I buy

I have a similar question: Which of your supported routers would you recommend for the best VPN performance? I currently have the 68U but VPN throughput is fairly limited at 16 mbps (2 MB/s). Would upgrading to an 88U or 86U give me significantly better performance?

[bug collecting] IPTV issues with recent firmware

I'm using an AC68 with BT TV as well. I've seen this "reverse upload" issue when viewing multicast channels for as long as I've had the AC68 (2 years maybe?). I've always thought it was just a strange cosmetic bug...I've never had any issues with actual upload bandwidth being reduced or...

    Questions about advanced VPN routing

I looked through the syslog right after boot and it looks like nat-start is called a few times during startup. But when I look at ip rules, my rule only appears once. Are new rules ignored if they already exist? If not, how would I ensure my rule only appears once? I'm not sure I follow what...

    Questions about advanced VPN routing

I've been thinking about this off and on for the past couple days, and I think I have a working solution (inspired by your other post here). In nat-start I've added: ip rule add from 0/0 fwmark 0x1000 table ovpnc1 prio 20001 In vpnclient1-route-up I've added: # Delete rule that blocks specific...

    Questions about advanced VPN routing

So I gave it a try and it worked...sort of. Very slow and sluggish, sometimes web pages would hang and I would need to manually reload. I didn't have port 8080 in my rules, but I don't think that was the issue. I deliberately had port 53 in there (both UDP and TCP) because I wanted to use my VPN...

    Questions about advanced VPN routing

I have an OpenVPN client set up on my AC68 running 380.65. Using policy rules, I have one device set to route all traffic through the VPN. Using john9527's custom openvpn-event script (located here), I've also set up scripts (eg, "vpnclient1-route-up" "vpnclient1-down") to add/remove some port...

Idea - Anyway to run the No-ip DUC on the router?

Fantastic! I'll give this a try later this weekend. I love how helpful and resourceful members of this forum are!

Connect to OpenVPN server & route thru OpenVPN client

Your VPN provider may offer different ports for the connection (such as port 80). I'd check with them, as this is a pretty common way to get around an issue such as this.

Idea - Anyway to run the No-ip DUC on the router?

I'll add to this a feature I'd love to see: DDNS updates for each VPN client. I run an OpenVPN client with a couple devices routed through it via policy rules. It would be great if DDNS could also update for those clients through the VPN tunnel. Right now I have the NoIP DUC running on one of...

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

Thank you john9527 and octopus for all your help in getting this sorted!

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

Success! That had to be it...it's working now! Are there any consequences to removing that from my config? It was part of the config file from my VPN provider.

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

For the sake of completeness, here are screenshots of my OpenVPN client configuration, plus the openvpn-event script from john9527. I'm really at a loss for why the down script isn't getting called. #!/bin/sh scr_name="$(basename $0)[$$]" case "$dev" in "tun11") vpn_name="client1" ;; "tun12")...

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

So I was reading on user scripts page in Merlin's wiki. For openvpn-event, it says: Does this mean openvpn-event doesn't get called when an OpenVPN client disconnects from a remote server?

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

    It shows: vpnclient3-route-up

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

Definitely making sure scripts are executable. They're being created in Xcode, so there shouldn't be any issues with carriage returns at row ends, but I ran dos2unix just in case. No change...script doesn't run when VPN is switched off. All I see in syslog is what I posted before: Jan 19...

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

Definitely using VPN client 3. I renamed the script to vpnclient3-route-pre-down but it had no effect...the ports still stay in the forwarding table when switching off the VPN client side (the on/off toggle on the OpenVPN Clients tab) and I don't see it in the syslog. Ideally, I'd like a script...

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

I changed $1 to $dev, and that seemed to do the trick: vpnclient3-route-up runs and correctly adds the port forwards. However, I'm not sure if vpnclient3-down is being run. If I manually stop the VPN client, should that script run? When I stop it, my port forwards still remain and all I see in...

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

Yep on top of all 3 scripts

Question on where to put VPN routing rules

I gave it a try, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm wondering if the openvpn-event script isn't picking up vpnclient3 specifically, because in the log I'm seeing: openvpn-event[1787]: Script not defined for event: vpn-route-up Just so you know, I have VPN server 1 configured, and VPN...
