Do you reboot often your router ?

Back on track. GT-AC5300. I reboot weekly just in case. The ROG routers are not very stable IMO and the 2nd GT-AC5300 I have as an AiMesh node needs to rebooted 3-4 times a week because it stops responding. It is a software issue though.

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

I doubt it :-( It has been long and features like guest networks are still missing. It is like Asus is giving up on AsusWRT and bugs are not fixed and many features are missing. It used to be better a few years ago but lately nothing happens.

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

You already replied me but here we go. You do not have to an Asus fan to be here but creating a 1st post that criticize ANY product without any substantial backup is not cool either. It is so uncool and troll-like that it MUST be curbed because it serves no purpose other than ruining this forum...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

Well thank you for elaborating. I do use AiMesh with two GT-AC5300 and a wired backhaul. It does work and do not experience ANY issues you mention besides the shared channel. So this may come down to the AX models not being ready for primetime and so it should be expected since the standard is...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

Not to defend AiMesh that surely has its share of issues but that "Wifi sucks" is hardly one of them. It is stupid to join a forum and to create a post like that without any details on the actual problem. Surely you must be on someones payroll to spread FUD like this.

Looks like ROG GTAC 2900 launches soon

Yes and will probably be serious behind the "normal" models with firmware due to all the tacky ROG stuff in the firmware. ROG = Tacky looks and slow updates. I wish my GT-AC5300 was NOT a ROG product.

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

Well it is good that you are happy with the Ubnt stuff. But I still want to question your claims. It is faster? How. When I test the RT-AC86U on a fiber connection we have a ping time around 3-4 ms. Is the Ubnt stuff faster and can a human even detect that? More stable? The last RT-AC86U I...

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

Yes the dream machine could be the thing Unifi needs to stay competitive (and maybe hw accelerated IPS/QoS) so it is going to be interesting to see where it goes. And they DO have proper APs these days with their HD APs. But they are not exactly cheap.

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

I have tried the USG + AC Pro setup because I bought into the hype and found it very limited compared to my old RT-AC3200 I had back then. The Wifi performance was just objectively lower even on 2x2 clients. I measured around 350 mbps which is also in line with SMB reviews. The current GT-AC5300...

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

Why don't you know it? I already told you it supports HW acceleration. Yes the switch chip is different but the routing performance is the same. The routing performance is the same according to the spec sheets. Sure the ER-12 has a bigger switching capacity (Ubnt calls this Line Rate in their...

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

Why? You can just google it. Use the ER-4 as your primary search parameter since it is more popular and has same routing performance (same CPU). I have tried the USG and it performed fine until you turned on any features. But these numbers are easy to find. Just google it and study yourself...

    AC86U vs EdgeRouter

This is crazy. Stop drinking the Ubiquity cool-aid! No the ER-12 won't do ISP or QoS at 1 gbps. The reason nobody at the Ubnt forum is not helping is they know this and they are fanboys with big F. They refuse the simply fact that Ubiquiti routers are terrible underpowered. Multi-cores likely...

Aimesh - Did anyone give up?

It is isn't. Tried the Orbi AC3000 with two satellites and was shocked on how unstable it is and how low the satellite range is compared to a normal router. The firmware is also odd sometimes. The Orbi seems constant drop clients and it very annoying.

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

Well Netgear sucks in firmware department. But Asus products (and I have deployed MANY) are very stable and the updates are frequent. Yes there is not performance impact since all of it is hardware accelerated. That is a fact. You can look at Tims CTF scores in his review of a router like...

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

I am sorry but that is just an excuse. The matter of fact is almost any half decent Asus router can do 1 gbit/s with all bells and whistles activated. These days it is not difficult to saturate 100 mbit/s in a common family household. And Synology and Asus will keep updating their old devices.
  16. T

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

Still extremely slow. Why is USG so absurdly underpowered? And they are also weirdly behind in so many ways. Like IPS - Even Synology has implemented it without almost any impact on performance and it is still a rather new segment for them.

Is the RT-AC3200 even being updated by ASUS?

I used to use the RT-AC3200 and it indeed does fully support 1gpbs WAN (tested it with 300mbp/s and obviously it worked). Also the reviews prove this. There is nothing wrong with the router.

    ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 (Owners)

Well it was a promising piece of kit. But I think it was destroyed by all the crappy ROG branding. If it had just followed the "normal" AsusWRT branch instead of all that ugly gamer fluff we would maybe have had a better device. Whoever PR moron came up with this "idea" should be fired.

    ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 (Owners)

Well you tried to lecture me about misunderstanding the meaning of "performance" in this discussion. No appeals to authority may not be valid but when the performance claims comes from somebody's wife and kids vs. proper testing the authority seems the right way to go. I couldn't ask my kids...

    ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 (Owners)

I have been very advocate about issues with the GT-AC5300. Especially the whole ROG styling and the simple fact that some features does not work yet but as a simple router it seems to be working in my case. Both of them (have two). But your argument goes also with Ubnt. So many people -...
