Need some help with older Nas which only allow 16TB as largest volume

Its hard to say that resetting the nas is going to help. 16GB? That must be raid5 Parity with no spare which is 18TB unformatted. 11.22TB would be something from raid5 with parity and spare which would be about 12.5TB unformatted. So keep in mind just because your NAS says raid5, there are...

Pro-sumer WiFi 6/6E routers with support for VLAN, VPN, SSH, and some custom firmware

A lot of things are marked up 3-4 times their cost of manufacturing price. But a lot of things retail are priced like that. But even commercial routers in certain cases will bog down under a VPN connection because it uses the cpu unless its a server.

How to connect NAS on a different LAN? (Or should I bother?)

to really double bandwidth, you use a switch with link aggregation support to combine the two ports to a 2.5Gb interface. But to fix this so you can access the NAS, you simply get a usb to Ethernet adapter or a Ethernet network card and plug it into the router the NAS is on.

Only Buy Routers Released In The Past One or Two Years?

You have to look at if the manufacturer is interested into making products they are going to service for a long time vs. products they make to serve a fad. Some of these devices they made years ago and now coming around to circulate in the market. A really good example of this is 10G Base-T...

Isolating IP cams and NVR from the rest of the network with VLAN

Well, the two best options would be to run a seperate cable to the NVR from the POE switch and discontinuing using the home network, or get a IPKVM which the most reasonable ones would be the piKVM types and a mini pc /raspberry pi to control/view the NVR. The later solution would give you the...

Router low performance wifi on AP Mode

Sounds like new product kinks. It happens. On Linux they are using a driver they specifically made for these intel 2.5G interfaces that was updated back in November of 2024. It looks like the same driver issue with BSD since you discovered this issue with pfsense. I would look if anyone has...

    Strange DNS Issue w/ RT6600ax

Looking at it, the site is hosted on a consumer connection the wrong way. So its not going to pass the DNSSEC security checks of quad 9 because it might flag it as a site that has no real origin. This is why dynamic DNS hosting should be only used for VPNs and remote desktop access. I really...

Advices about custom dns in a home lan

Well there are a few ways to implement a DNS sever, but the norm is to install it on something that runs all the time, like a NAS box or a switch or router. Before I switched my network to ipfire (which has a name server in it) I used a 5 port Ubiquity Edge Router and installed bind9 and...

    Hello

I wanted to introduce myself and break the ice. I got into computers early in life, but mostly on the hardware side. I worked as an electronics technician in several areas: TV/Stereo/pro audio, and later obtained an Electronics Technology degree and worked with IT solutions, computer hardware...
