GT-BE98 with Zyxel VMG4005-B50A how to access the (modem) GUI?

Have you had any success in setting up a secondary/reverse connection on the main WAN connection of the BE98? In WAN - Internet Connection: Get the WAN IP automatically Change the Setting to NO, and in the subsequent dialogue setup the BE98 within the address space of the ZYXEL. If the ZYXEl is...

Getting to the bottom of my failed British General (BG) sockets

Rather than use smart adapters, I've used BG Smart wall sockets in a couple of places around the home - mostly where protrusion was an issue. These sockets form their own network with a single socket (it can be any socket, they're identical) being the bridge between them and the main WiFi...

Ever wondered what's inside a wifi antenna? Here's some pics.

Twice the frequency means half the wavelength. That said, most of our Asus routers have Dipoles inside the plastic housing (unless things have changed). If you look at business class access points you'll see different antenna configurations again! The design is pretty simple and straight...

Wireguard Client VPN not using DNS

Im lazy, so I'm not even looking that deeply, just checking the details on my laptop WiFi connection shows the router IPv6 WAN ( ::1) address is also used for DNSv6

Wireguard Client VPN not using DNS

FYI: A quick check of device IP settings should show that by default the router does hand out an IPv6 DNS address. In my case though, that DNS address though is the routers' internet address and not it's local IPv6 address!

Wireguard Client VPN not using DNS

On the Samsung TV you should be able to go into it's network settings and set the DNS on the TV - that should fix that one. The Chromecast with Google TV - unless things have changed, the only way to get that to use any DNS other than what's built in (it won't use DNS suggested by DHCP), is to...

Rog Rapture GT-AX6000: IoT devices continuosly disconnected

I've just removed my last British General smart socket since it became unreliable a couple of weeks back, and I'd added its MAC address to the reject list. In the last couple of years, I also discovered that old Bluetooth devices (Speaker systems from both Sony and Samsung) can cause havoc with...

RT-BE88U IPTV - BT TV / EE TV

If you've had the BT TV or EE TV set up with either a BT or EE router, reset the TV box, try again and usually the multicast issues will go away, along with the need for any IP-TV settings. BT/EE do like to play with this stuff though!

Maintaining a connection around -70 to -80 dBm.

My Direct neighbour (lives on their own) has an EE WiFi 7 router and three mesh units, and my next closest neighbour has Sky Broadband and 3 Sky Q minis (40MHz channel width). So once I'm into the road, I'm getting swamped pretty early on now. But I have full coverage in the house and my own...

Maintaining a connection around -70 to -80 dBm.

Sometimes you just have to do a walk test. Which I've just done, and shocked myself by how far that distance has decreased in the last few years. I now lose signal about 30m away, keeping as clear a path as possible it used to be closer to 50m.

Wireguard VPN doesn't work, buyer beware

There are plenty on these boards who successfully use WireGuard. As for VPNs being slow, if you have an asynchronous connection you'll either be limited by the processing power of the router, or the slower of your broadband up/down speeds. *Assuming you are setting the router up as a server and...

HP COLOR LASER MFP M283FDW WI-FI CONNECTIVITY UNSTABLE

Follow up! My fear having written the previous post is that HP eprint may have somehow been re-enabled on my own HP Printer. A quick test, and yes it has been! So any idiot who can figure out an easily guessable eprint email address has been able to send print jobs to my printer. As these...

HP COLOR LASER MFP M283FDW WI-FI CONNECTIVITY UNSTABLE

Make sure you are using the most up-to-date version of HP Smart. On older versions, it can do this horrible thing of storing local IP addresses for the printer rather than using the device name or MAC based ID. Do anything that changes the local IP of the printer, and things used to go wrong...

    iPhone 16 pro picks 5ghz instead of 6 (GTBE98 pro / BE96U mesh)

Especially with mobile devices, you'll probably find that when you arrive home it's connecting to 5GHz (or even 2.4GHz) first, and may dance around the bands and even the mesh units before clinging on to what it believes to be a perfect signal. At that point it's often down to the device and...

Wi-FI 7 Antennae for desktop PC

Before you spend any money, what's the issue that you are seeing, and what router is the PC connecting to? Also, what's the signal path from the PC to the router like?

Connecting to the router using ddns domain name from within the network?

If you have IPv6, you don't even need to go that far, it just works. And if you can map any servers that you may need to make available, they'll work too - there is no issue with NAT Loopback when using IPv6. Setting up any certificates can be a little more convoluted though! *And your clients...

Connecting to the router using ddns domain name from within the network?

I believe myself and @Ripshod have been using these techniques for years - without issue! And as a heads-up, I can very definitely ping my WAN IP without having to "Enable Web Access from WAN". Try it!

Connecting to the router using ddns domain name from within the network?

The trick is: On the LAN > LAN IP Host Name needs to be the name you've picked for your router The Domain name needs to be the domain your DDNS uses (without the host part) Of course, this only really works if it's your own domain name. If you use a DDNS with a common domain segment, you'll...
