Release ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34791

Me, having actively messed something up yesterday decided to try the official firmware - which has also involved setting PiHole back up on an SBC. So far so good, though to get DDNS up and running I've had to create a modified /jffs/configs/inadyn.conf (using Vi which I hate with a passion)...

    DSL-N66U Probably a stupid question

Yes you'd need to use the WAN port and then reflect this in the WAN settings on the router. You'll also need to talk to Vodafone and get them to send you the username and password (they're not always very good at sending the correct info). Thing is.... The DSL-N66U is an old slow router...

custom ddns update every minutes with AX86U 3004.388.7 firmeware

*I'm unable to test this at the moment... I believe the problem with the IPv6 update checkbox has been previously reported. I believe it comes about because the inbuilt script checks ppp0, but the IPv6 WAN address only appears in br0.

    AX86U and 2x GT6 node

In Mesh mode it looks as if the controlling device passes the highest-performing common settings to the slaves - while still performing to its own maximum. If there are no settings to pass on to the slaves, nothing gets passed on at all. Interestingly setting my GT-AX6000 5GHz control channel...

    AX86U and 2x GT6 node

I think from previous discussions you have to use one of the more capable devices as the main router in AiMesh, but if you set the wired GT6s up as access points you'll get more control over how you can use all of their three bands!

IPv6 addresses on LAN but disabled in settings

One final heads up. My experience with IoT devices and poor connections has mostly come down to their being shielded. I no longer have any Shelly devices because I have UK metal backboxes which is almost the same as putting them in a Faraday cage, but I wouldn't want to put them in plastic...

IPv6 addresses on LAN but disabled in settings

What is the result of devices on your network dropping packets - what is going wrong? And are you only "aware" of the dropped packets because of Wireshark? I'm sorry if I'm sounding pedantic, but it's not uncommon to find people trying to fix problems that don't really exist! If your IOT is...

IPv6 addresses on LAN but disabled in settings

Mostly on a local device IPv4 and IPv6 will "dual stack". This means that devices will have both an IPv4 address and probably multiple (4 is common on an IPv6 compliant network) IPv6 addresses. You don't need to turn off IPv6 as your IPv4 connections are still working, and the available...

IPv6 addresses on LAN but disabled in settings

On Windows at least, you can turn off the WiFi and unplug any ethernet cable in a machine, and if it has IPv6 enabled on the WiFi adapter it'll still create its own link-local IPv6 address! Wireshark can be a great tool if you are looking to solve an issue and understand how things work or even...

Can't access 192.168.100.1 when connected through my ASUS AX Router

There was a time, when that second control/reverse channel would be set up by the router with no user intervention, so long as the modem connected over a PPPoE rather than MPoA. I think in part this was the issue using the Netgear DM100 modem with Asus routers, it worked in bridge mode with...

Can't access 192.168.100.1 when connected through my ASUS AX Router

So long as the LAN IP and subnet of the router are different to those on the modem it works. So: Router 192.168.50.1/24 Modem 192.168.100.1/24 works. Not doing this and sticking the gateway/modem on an address within the routers address space requires the gateway/modem to be connected to a LAN...

Can't access 192.168.100.1 when connected through my ASUS AX Router

To a point it depends on how you have your modem connected, and even brand/model! Mostly setting: WAN> Get The Wan IP address Automatically = No IP Address = 192.168.100.10 Subnet = 255.255.255.0 Gateway = 192.168.100.1 That will create an additional connection on the WAN port connecting to a...

Can only access a website by direct connection to router. Not through switch

Unless on the router you can set an individual username and password for a client with a specific MAC address, you'll need to be using a setting called (something similar to) IP Passthru or NAT Passthru, and then set the needed username and password on the connecting client itself. Failing that...

External antennas on the likes of AC86U, is that the magic for range?

But having/needing multiple APs is more costly and complex. You also don't want to get into the situation that I see too often in the BT forums where you have a regular British house with the router and six (or more) APs/Mesh nodes, and the customers are struggling with truly abysmal...

    Home Automation question

Bit weird because using a Tapo light sensor and Tapo bulbs you can set up two routines, one to be active Sunset-X to Sunset+X and another Sunrise-X to Sunrise+X. If you use the colour-changing bulbs you can even have the luminosity (bluntly) auto-set based on the time of day.

    ASUS App Android? Secure???

I think I stopped using the app after issues with the RT-AC86u, where could get the router into an odd state either after setting up tunnelling IPv6 or game mode. I definitely had a situation where I had to restore all the settings back to factory to clear a quirk that brought the network down...

which DNS server is being used

That could be it, I hadn't looked hard enough to realise you are not using the Merlin firmware. If you were, your original image would have looked like: Doing everything I can to minimize image size

which DNS server is being used

Not really. Those are the servers provided to the router from the WAN DHCP and as indicated they are "overwritten by DNS Privacy", ie DoT. *At the moment I'm using Cloudflare DNS as the internal IPTV servers BT DNS points to top out at 1080p, while the external servers will deliver 4K!
