Is now the time to go to 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps home networking?

Oh, I'm not saying prices won't continue to go down and things like the highly integrated part from MaxLinear is a step in that direction. A year and a half ago, when Realtek was showing their 5 Gbps chips at Computex, I asked about 10 Gbps and was told that they expected to have more power...

Is now the time to go to 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps home networking?

Close, but not quite, at least not on the switch side. Intel lists their recommended pricing for their Ethernet chips. Latest 2.5 Gbps https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/210599/intel-ethernet-controller-i226v/specifications.html Latest 1 Gbps (which is from 2015)...

Is now the time to go to 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps home networking?

Of course there is, it's a huge difference, as all 10 Gbps switches today use dedicated PHY's and you need one per port, whereas recent 2.5 Gbps switches integrate the PHY side into the switching IC. This is MaxLinear's single chip switching solution for up to 10 2.5 Gbps ports. Even older 2.5...

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

But the issue is a hardware defect... Not the driver. No, they are not. They controllers are sold as te Marvell AQtion now, the Aquantia brand is dead since several years ago. The fact that various hardware manufacturers are too lazy to update their packaging and product information, isn't...

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

Marvell bought Aquantia some years ago, so yes, Marvell has everything to do with it, since they sell the chips and support the hardware. This is how my card that I bought from Aquantia appears in Windows 10 today.

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

Sorry, but you clearly don't understand the issue here. Intel has at least one, of not multiple hardware bugs and they've even admitted as much on early revisions of their 2.5 Gbps products. It's been years, multiple hardware revisions and even a new SKU and all of them are having issues. So...

    Different speed?

You can't just do a single run with the Ookla speedtest though, as it has too high variability. Try something like iPerf instead, it should be part of the new firmwares on the AX models at least, but you have to SSH in to the router to run it.

    Malware damaging ASUS routers?

The UK allows for higher transmit power in some of the upper 5 GHz channels and have a different regulations for channel 138 and 142. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5_GHz_(802.11a/h/n/ac/ax/be)

    Malware damaging ASUS routers?

Uhm, no. However, it is extremely power limited. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5_GHz_(802.11a/h/n/ac/ax/be)

    Malware damaging ASUS routers?

Not sure, but that data should be stored in the WiFi chips no? Most chips can have an OTP, I presumed this data was stored there, so it can't be wiped.

    Malware damaging ASUS routers?

No, this is not correct either, each router has to be calibrated at the factory and they're tuned to work with the specific antennas as well, since sometimes the same PCB is used in different router models and different antennas are used and the WiFi radios have to be tuned specifically for the...

    Malware damaging ASUS routers?

No, it's not a model specific thing, it's a unit specific thing. Yes, there's a set of common parameters, but the calibration is per unit produced. None of this is user accessible. That's not how it works. The radios are tuned on each router during manufacturing. That said, modern Wi-Fi radios...

    Potential Intel I225-V/I225-LM fix

Someone over at the MSI forums have found a ne firmware for those willing to test it, that the poster claims fixes the drop-out issues that almost everyone has experienced with the Intel I225-V/I225-LM network chips. See...

    USB Wifi 7 adapter - USB-BE92 Nano

I think you misunderstood. The Broadcom WiFi modules in their routers have a Cortex-A7 SoC with its own OS, that is not accessible,

Looking for feedback: Anyone considering AiCloud important to them?

Never used it, got a NAS for storage and I can access that via VPN if I need to remotely.

Recent Security Patches — Still Missing

Interesting, as the RT-AX68U has gotten the update and it was apparently EOL.
