What would be a better solution?

Quantenna was apparently a PITA to integrate, as you still needed a third party SoC and Quantenna had a really weird interface early on, but even once that was improved, their drivers were apparently not that easy to integrate with the third party SoC. At Securifi we used a third party SoC, but...

What would be a better solution?

More like when it's the same radios, i.e. Qualcomm, Broadcom or Mediatek, I have no real experience with Realtek routers. I only had Qualcomm based hardware for a very long time. Then again, I had two Broadcom based Asus routers (one as an AP) and one old TP-Link router (also as an AP) and no...

What would be a better solution?

Just wanted to point out, since a lot of people are buying into the Mesh marketing, that WiFi works fine, even if you mix and match hardware and devices. Yes, there have been some client device issues (certain Intel and Broadcom compatibility issues), but in general, it works pretty well as a...

What would be a better solution?

I think you misread my comment, the consumer version is as you say, barely a mesh network, so it doesn't really apply to what's being marketed as mesh networking.

What would be a better solution?

Except that doesn't apply to consumer WiFi Mesh networks, funnily enough...

What would be a better solution?

I never had any issue with calls cutting off when moving between the floors, as that was in a three storey home, with 2-3 rooms per floor, although the first floor has a 3.5 meter ceiling height or so. The building was all steel and concrete and even the 2.4 GHz signal wasn't strong enough to...

What would be a better solution?

I've been running a mix of devices from 2-3 different brands and never had a problem with wireless handoff between them. One router, the other two as wired AP's over the past few years.

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

Did I say it was only a TP-Link issue? I simply pointed it out as an issue. This was not a "mesh" setup, just a bog standard range extender, which I had to put OpenWRT on to make it work as an AP instead, as that wasn't an option in the standard firmware. Somewhat unfortunately, it died when I...

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

Maybe for version 14.80, but not version 1, in fact, version 1 and 5 (what happened to 2-4?) don't even have a downloadable firmware on their website. Version 7 got its last update in 2012, v8 in 2017, v9 in 2015, v11 in 2015, v13 in 2023 and then the three different v14 models all got updates...

RT-AX88U Pro - Block YouTube on Smart TV

Maybe try using a PIN code on the TV instead? https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/LED-and-OLED-TVs/Parental-control-for-Youtube/td-p/2569759

    GT-AX 6000 upgrade

Something non Asus? You seem to be asking for a side-grade rather than an upgrade though. https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt6000/ There's also the TUF Gaming TUF-AX6000.

Trying To Understand the GS - AX5400

So your issue is not with your main router, but with the secondary device in your barn. Keep in mind that each router/access point (which is what your second router should be set up as), can handle their own amount of WiFi devices, so your device limit isn't the reason your 12th camera drops off...

Trying To Understand the GS - AX5400

I would avoid the tri-core Broadcom routers when possible, as they use by now, really old Corted-A7 CPU cores and they're underpowered in every way imaginable. 1: As for how many devices you can connect, that's hardly going to be an issue for most consumers, as not all devices will be actively...

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

That's not true though. Yes, it's a much lower risk, but this was around the time when the WPA2 encryption was compromised, although they had released an update for that. The device seems to still be on sale, last firmware for the most recent version is three years old.

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

Yeah, not defending any company doing this kind of crap. That Blue Cave thing was a POS and I guess the support went out the door as soon as Intel sold that BU to MaxLinear.

    Router bricked

Asus went with SLC NAND good for a 100k P/E cycles. https://www.mxic.com.tw/en-us/products/NAND-Flash/SLC-NAND-Flash/Pages/spec.aspx?p=MX30UF2G18AC&m=SLC+NAND&n=PM2175

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

So you're only planning on using it for a year? As that's how soon some models are replaced and then no longer get firmware updates. I bought one of their at the time, current range extenders, turned out the version was EOL already and never got a single firmware update, but the three new...

How to force device to use WiFi AP instead of main router

Use a different SSID on the AP or enable the guest network on it and connect the device to it.

Which of These 3 Routers Do You Recommend?

Because people aren't aware of the shenanigans the company pulls. Most people never update their router firmware, as you well know. Good luck to them and don't complain when your router is part of a botnet or you get hacked. The industry on a whole needs to do better.

    ..

Sorry, what? No consumer motherboard does anything less than x8/x4/x4 for starters. However, bifurcation isn't limited to splitting the bandwidth between slots, it can also be split between multiple PCIe chips on an add-in card. If this isn't supported by the platform, you only get access to the...
