Honest review of Asus WRT 5.0 (3.0.0.6 Branch)

A little opinion here: I am glad ASUS routers are developed and manufactured in Taiwan opposed to Asian competitors. With my industrial automation background I can safely assume that the ASUS router firmware development department does not count hundreds of employees, not even tens probably...

    RT-AC68U problems with configuration

I suggest to start from scratch, without VPN as follows: If there are, disconnect all USB devices. Install the latest available firmware version. Reset to factory defaults. Do not load an old configuration backup file, manual configure the router as outlined in the next...

Solved:RT-AC68P Assigning Static IP's within DHCP Range

I referred to the Asus terminology, like from my router: RT-AC1900U: IP address manual set by me in the RT-AC1900U Media Bridge. Printer1: IP address set by the Router DHCP Server as assigned by me. MSFT 5 0: IP address automatically assigned by the Router DHCP Server.

Solved:RT-AC68P Assigning Static IP's within DHCP Range

I am not sure if it was mentioned: Static assignment means the IP settings are manually made in that client device, these addresses shall not be in the DHCP range (in your case below 120). In my situation only a RT-AC1900U set a Media Bridge does have a Static IP address. Manual assignment means...

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51668 (2023/11/30 )

I have a RT-AC68U as Router and a RT-AC1900U as Media Bridge, the RT-AC1900U is considered identical to the RT-AC68U. Both got a dirty upgrade (upgrade "over the air" without additional reboot or hard reset) from 51665 to 51668 and are stable as a rock, operating for over a month after the...

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51668 (2023/11/30 )

It is hilarious you see my observation as a complaint. Stating 150 MB used is "completely normal" with this router (the RT-AC68U) is in contradiction with your next obvious statement about the more features you enable, the more memory it uses. In other words, there is no "normal" memory usage. A...

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51668 (2023/11/30 )

Ah that is a different point of view 😅 There is still sufficient memory, no harm yet but I wasn't aware that routers are like humans and slowly occupy all the storage space there is like your drawers, loft or garage. Or is it the "all you can eat" concept.

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51668 (2023/11/30 )

This firmware version works flawless, no issues, no weird system log entries, no needs for reboots since the dirty upgrade from 51665 to 51668 a month ago but both my Router and Media Bridge slowly use more RAM memory over time: see this post with updates.

Asus repeater reverts to 80mhz after losing station?

I thought you wrote in post #12 that the issue was fixed by something you keep secret? I also read in the beginning about fallback to 80 MHz and now about fallback to 40 MHz. As said a few times: what ever you set in Router mode, may or will get lost when you change to Repeater mode. I don't...

Asus repeater reverts to 80mhz after losing station?

As indicated, you where the first with this question or issue in the forum, you got help but indeed not the answer you was hoping for. Keeping the solution to yourself is not what this kind of forums are for, with people from all over the world doing their best to help within their knowledge or...

    Asus 386.12_4 Wireless Channel

Use a Wi-Fi Analyzer on a computer, e.g.: https://matthafner.com/wifi-analyzer And make it visible how crowded the 2.4 GHz band in your environment is, if you use a laptop for testing: walk around, try different rooms with the analyzer and you might see different results because of disturbance...

    Broken power button

Then soldering short circuits is the very best and easiest solution. This is a photo of the rear of the RT-AC68U printed circuit board: Circled red are the 6 pins of the power switch. Someone with a multi meter should be able to tell which pins shall be short circuited to make an always ON...

    Broken power button

It requires soldering (with the right small soldering iron and some experience). For the RT-AC68U (or similar) switch I guess it is safer to try some superglue solution to keep the switch in the ON position.

    Asus 386.12_4 Wireless Channel

I have no extended AiMesh experience, my first suggestion would be to add nodes one by one (power one, search, add) add the second node when the first one is complete. AiMesh is developed and still in progress, I assume the latest 3.0.0.4.388 and 3.0.0.6.102 versions include further enhancements...

    Asus 386.12_4 Wireless Channel

Wireless channel, mesh, WPS. This goes from one to the other. Asus AiMesh does nothing with WPS. Maybe start to explain your network setup with modem, router and AiMesh (or other kind of) nodes, including the equipment types and firmware versions.

AC68U Mesh Node - Change Hostname How?

In an AiMesh system I don't think there is a way and there is no need to assign or change network Host Names to the AiMesh nodes.

    Asus 386.12_4 Wireless Channel

The short answer is: NO. I assume you installed 386.12_4 (not 384). What was the previous firmware version and when was the last full reset and manual configuration from scratch?

RT-AC1900U Firmware flashing failed - red wan light - cannot connect to router

Tomato has like all WRT based router software versions a WAN section you can configure with at least WAN type and so on. Search for "asus red wan led" gives me numerous hits. And about ASUS and ipconfig: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/114068 Anyway thanks for asking support and all the best in...

RT-AC1900U Firmware flashing failed - red wan light - cannot connect to router

I agree with the previous replies that you seems to lack knowledge and should never have tried to load third party firmware. Well here some short instructions: On a Windows PC: Hit the Windows key + R The Run dialog shall appear, type after Open: cmd Hit ENTER or click OK This shall open a...
