News Mirai DDoS malware variant expands targets with 13 router exploits [D-Link, TP-Link Archer, Yealink, Zyxel...]

Didn't realize it was behind a paywall. Sorry. I am a subscriber. I don't share your opinion of Wired. I've found many of their long articles to be excellent journalism. And paywalls, are not dumb. Good journalism costs money. Journalists gotta eat, too.

News Mirai DDoS malware variant expands targets with 13 router exploits [D-Link, TP-Link Archer, Yealink, Zyxel...]

Since we're on the subject, Wired has an excellent article by Andy Greenberg on how Mirai came to be and what happened to the 3 teenagers who created it. It's long read. https://www.wired.com/story/mirai-untold-story-three-young-hackers-web-killing-monster/

    WiFi 7 has been certified.

That's how it has been with MU-MIMO and OFDMA. So, yeah, expect, uh, "partial" implementations.

    WiFi 7 has been certified.

I believe you. But I've seen enough demos of new Wi-Fi technology to know that they use special firmware loads and optimal conditions. YMMV. ;) As to whether MLO uses the lowest latency link, it depends on how the manufacturer will choose to adjust the knobs. There are three basic choices, i.e...

    WiFi 7 has been certified.

@Jansen3 The only benefit to releasing routers with pre-release standard hardware and firmware is to networking companies' bottom lines. Each new technology, MIMO, MU-MIMO, OFDMA and now MLO has been over-hyped and under-delivered. Perhaps someday MLO will deliver the benefits you cite. But not...

@Tech9 You seem to be moving back to old behavior that has earned you temporary bans in the past. Stick to discussing facts and not editorializing on others' choices.

    WiFi 7 has been certified.

In the past, Apple has gone slow in bringing new Wi-Fi standards into its products. I really don't know what practical benefit you'd get from 7 in a phone.

    WiFi 7 has been certified.

Official 802.11be IEEE Task Group timeline is here. https://www.ieee802.org/11/Reports/tgbe_update.htm Depending on which milestone you choose, certification looks like Sept or Dec 2024

How do I find out why my router has stopped assigning LAN ip addresses ?

For fun, I tried asking ChatGpt 4... Reply edited to extract the most relevant content. Assuming you have CLI access. Check DHCP Leases: Once logged in, you can use specific commands to view the DHCP leases. The common command for this is cat /tmp/dnsmasq.leases or cat...

Forum bias toward Netgear and Asus?

SNBForums started as a discussion platform for SmallNetBuilder. I retired from reviewing a few years ago and have since passed the site onto a colleague who is running it mainly for ad revenue. I have no ties to that site, even though its content consists of primarily my articles...

Wi-Fi 7 Multi Link Operation (MLO) discussion

Words fail me to describe the arrogance of those statements. Yes, life is too short. Unfortunately, I have to moderate these forums, so can’t use the Ignore button as many others have done.
