    Spectrum Internet slowdown with RT-AC86U

Are you connecting computers via WiFi or cable? If WiFi 2.4 or 5GHz? If WiFi, under professional tab you should disable airtime fairness and universal beamforming...most devices are not compatible with those settings. You have to do this on both WiFi bands

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

Upgraded both 86U and 68U from 384.5 to 384.6. Both upgrades went smoothly. However, on the 86U I see this message in the log: kernel: nf_conntrack: automatic helper assignment is deprecated and it will be removed soon. Use the iptables CT target to attach helpers instead. Any idea what it...

    Wifi performance issue AC68U

I had slower transfers than expected from my Mac (High Sierra) to my NAS (Synology). I made this change to my Mac (the client) and it was 2-2.5 times faster. https://dpron.com/os-x-10-11-5-slow-smb/ Via Wi-Fi transfers WILL be slower depending on your frequency and distance. Eliminating the...

WiFi speeds dramatically drop when device comes back onto network

When possible, try to stay with channels 1, 6, or 11 as these channels do not overlap with a 20 MHz bandwidth. All the other channels have overlap with 1, 6, or 11. Using 40 MHz bandwidth on 2.4 is usually problematic unless you are operating in a sparsely populated area.

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Saw this in the log about 90 minutes after installing 384.5: May 15 13:15:01 kernel: nf_conntrack: automatic helper assignment is deprecated and it will be removed soon. Use the iptables CT target to attach helpers instead. Not sure what it means... any ideas??

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Installed 384.5 on both 68U and 86U. Went smoothly on both and both seem to be working well!!

Any known issues regarding AC2900/RT-AC86U 2.4 GHz radio malfunction?

We have about 10-15 clients on 2.4 as well as 5-10 on 5 GHz. No issues on the 86U running 384.4_2. I also run a 68U with 384.4_2 and it has also been rock solid.

    TimeMachine with encrypted disk?

We have a multitude of Apple devices do Time Machine backups to our Synology NAS. It's built into the NAS OS (DSM) and works well. Just changed hard drive in an older MacBook Pro and restored a backup from the NAS. No issues. Synology has videos on their site on settings to configure for Time...

    Is this a router-side problem or a NAS-side problem?

Colin, he is trying to access remotely via WAN...the router will block those requests. IF the request came from the LAN side then UPNP could work. UPNP was a Microsoft invention to make the Xbox work for them. Xbox makes requests on LAN side.

    Is this a router-side problem or a NAS-side problem?

You need to open the appropriate port to allow access from the WAN side of the router. UPNP will not help you here as UPNP requests are only LAN side, not WAN side. With a bit of searching, it looks like ASUS uses port 8000 with TCP requests...open that port using the IP address of your NAS and...

    Reoccuring entries in 384.4_2

I get this large number of invalid tokens freed in the log every day...anything to be concerned about? Also, any idea what the 10.26.155.217 address reference is?? Apr 14 12:35:29 kernel: FPM Pool 0: invalid token 0x003ff000 freed Apr 14 12:35:39 kernel: FPM Pool 0: invalid token 0x003ff000...

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

That's OK...working my way thru the network services filter. Seems OK but I have to use CIDR notation. And I'm trying to leave one hole for my NAS. It's workable. Can't thank you enough for the feedback!

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

Yes, turning off NAT and the static route still works. FYI, overall what I'm trying to do is still a kluge. What I really need is two separate subnets and I can't easily get this with the Asus routers unless I resort to scripting. Something like 1.x subnet on ports 1,2 and wireless and 2.x...

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

Colin, you were right...turning off the firewall fixed the static route issue!! Thanks so much for the assistance. On to the network services filter...

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

I'll play with the network services filter tomorrow and report back on the static route with the firewall off

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

Sure. The goal was to segregate my unsecure items (IOT/cameras, streaming boxes) from the computers in the network but this is going to fail as any "downstream" subnet can see devices in the upstream subnet. Looks like I need 2 completely separate subnets to do this right. Other ideas?

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

That makes sense. I'll check in a few hours...family is watching hockey and each change I make bombs folks off the WiFi.

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

Well, you are correct...the static route on the 68U wasn't necessary. That probably means static routes aren't working in this codebase at all. Can anyone verify??

Static Routes appear broken on 86U using 384.4_2

I'll try removing the static route on the 68U to verify. Regardless I do want to go from a computer on the 192.168.1.x subnet to 192.168.2.1 and this static route won't work on the 86U at all.
