AiProtection and Security Suites (Norton, Bitdefender, etc.)

I'm not 100% sure. There is a Bitdefender tab in Outlook by default where you have the option of two rules: move message to deleted items and mark spam as read. So it seems to me that Bitdefender automatically deletes e-mails it considers spam and sends them to the deleted items folder, but...

AiProtection and Security Suites (Norton, Bitdefender, etc.)

Good point about the double protection. I have a two-year-old computer that I built myself that has pretty decent specs and good Internet speeds. I did notice some slowdown when I had all of Bitdefender's secure browsing features turned on, but I think it was the "search defender" feature that...

AiProtection and Security Suites (Norton, Bitdefender, etc.)

I recently dropped Norton for Bitdefender Total Security after ten years because I wanted to try something new (I know the cool thing to do now is use Malwarebytes and Windows Defender). I also have an 86u with all of the AiProtection features turned on. A lot of the features seem to be...

RT-AC86u WAN LED red, but still able to browse from LAN/WLAN devices?

Asus released an official fix this week: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RT-AC86U/HelpDesk_BIOS/

RT-AC-68U client status incorrect and dropping signal

This isn't an answer to your question, but I have the same issue with my Asus RT-AC86U. It reports one of my video game consoles as a wired connection even though I've only connected it wirelessly. I've been running the latest stock firmware since I got my router two weeks ago.

    88U vs 86U

This is all coming from a networking layperson so take this however: I would go with the cheapest being you weren't having difficulties with signal strength on your old router. I personally wouldn't buy an expensive router (88U) that is already 2-years-old mainly because you already lost two...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Sorry to double post, but the Synology rt2600ac is $40 off with promo code at Newegg bringing it down to $160.

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

How is AiProtection a joke? How is it different than Synology's intrusion prevention? The Asus AiProtection has blocked quite a few things in the week I've had it. I did notice that when researching the two routers. Synology was months ahead patching vulnerabilities.

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Yes! I can't stop thinking about it. :D Thanks for the reminder. Looks like I have until January 31, 2018 to return mine. An extra two months to make sure it works. That is true. It will be a learning experience for next time we buy a router (I've been exclusively Netgear until now --...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

I really struggled with my decision for a few weeks (obsessing for hours and hours). I decided on the Asus. I even went as far as looking at the internal teardown pictures from the FCC. The Asus looks like it had a little more thought put into it and I figure they probably made the PCB and...

Does enabling 'Guest Networks' cause any performance hits or issues?

I was looking into doing the same thing with my IoT devices, but haven't found many articles explaining the pros ands cons (or if it is pointless). I was looking into Synology's newest router that has AP isolation on the guest network that would prevent clients from interacting with each other...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Exactly. Since the audit probably won't be published I guess regular folks like me can at least look at the amount of firmware updates and/or their changelogs to get a little idea. Nice to hear about security improvements in the codebase too. Good to know. Thanks to you and RMerlin. I...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Ok, cool. I see a lot of "never Asus!" claims online because of the security audit ruling. To me it seems like Asus routers would be safer now. I guess we'll have to wait until the first audit to find out. Thank you for the information and your work on the custom firmware! I wish stuff...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Thank you! Makes sense. Does Asus do any kind of firmware security scans on major releases like this (is this common practice)? https://www.synology.com/en-us/support/security_scan Or is it another thing to slap on the box? -- In which case that doesn't really apply to Synology being their...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Yeah, I only access my router as an admin when hardwired to my PC and using an incognito browser. I was wondering about the HTTPS option. Good to know. I've never done remote access (don't really see the need based on how I use my router). In your opinion is 2-step verification a good...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

I didn't know any of this. Good info! Yeah, support is the main thing I'm worried about with Synology (I'm hoping to get four years out of my next router). I understand they update their NAS devices for a very long time (seems like they are going all out with their routers too -- don't know...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

Is it sad that is took me about two or three days before I realized RMerlin from this forum is the one that does the firmware? Right now I'm not into custom firmware. It does open up more possibilities in favor of an Asus, but I would use that more as a tie-breaker than deciding factor. And...

    Asus RT-AC86U vs. Synology RT2600ac

I'm glad I found this forum! I'm totally new to networking so it's interesting and informative! Currently I have the Netgear R7000 (had it for that past four years) and have almost zero issues with it other than the 5GHz band occasionally freezing. My wife and I just use it for downloading...
