Is the stock Netgear R7800 QoS really this bad?

The last set of definition/signature files I got for iQoS (on my R8500) was: netgear-detection-db-v1.212 netgear-detection-module-0027 both dated: 6/27/18

Is the stock Netgear R7800 QoS really this bad?

Qualcomm's Dynamic QoS (StreamBoost) engine was the bee's knees a few years ago. However; from what I can tell, Qualcomm has lost interest in enhancing it any further. The last change I saw to the code was back in early 2017. Qualcomm hasn't really even mentioned StreamBoost in years...

    DNSCrypt-Proxy version 2 and STUBBY add-ons for R7800/R9000

@Voxel @kamoj I have opened an "issue" (https://github.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-proxy/issues/802) in hopes a Wiki page could eventually be created for DNSCrypt-Proxy running Voxel's firmware on Netgear routers. Since you two are really the experts in this area I was hoping you might comment on...

    DNSCrypt-Proxy version 2 and STUBBY add-ons for R7800/R9000

Sorry, I should have updated this thread. I was able to fix the issue. All I needed to do was run: /etc/init.d/dnscrypt-proxy-2 enable Afterwards, DNSCrypt-Proxy ran perfectly fine after every reboot. I must have done something that was essentially the equivalent of...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

I can't find the new X6S (R7960P) on Amazon. I did see the old X6S (R8000P) is there for $249.

    AX12/AX8 Gui

From what little I've seen, I'm really liking what Netgear has done so far with the GUI. The black and white is perfect. These are Nighthawk routers after all, lol. That said, I'd rather what little time they spend tweaking the firmware to be spent on patching security vulnerabilities first...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

Agreed. I think Netgear either starts out with no QoS at all (i.e. R9000) or something basic to ensure they get to add it to the features list. I'm torn on this one. TM/R9000 has the best Dynamic QoS implementation I've ever used, but I've heard great things about sqm-scripts, qos-scripts...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

I did that research because, like lots of other folks, I have been trying to combat bufferbloat for about a year now. This was mainly due to hosting Game Nights with crappy DSL Internet. Now that I have switched to Cable ONE (onto their GigaONE gigabit Internet plan) bufferbloat is no longer an...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

Funny you should ask  https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R9000-X10-Dynamic-Qos-StreamBoost-or-iQoS/td-p/1702431 The QoS implementation in the R9000 is unique. Since the main CPU was neither Qualcomm or Broadcom, Netgear chose to go with Trend Micro. After I read a...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.65SF

I have run across instances where the reboot command resulted in some of my changes not actually getting applied; whereas, the reboot button in the GUI ensured they were. I'm not sure of the exact specifics as to why; I'm just speaking from past experiences. I hope this helps!

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.65SF

Have you tried: nvram default nvram commit **** Do NOT reboot the router via the 'reboot' command in telnet/ssh *** Reboot the router via the GUI button or the power button on the back of the router.

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

Getting everything to finally work again was a huge pain in the arse. My kids are finally happy again, so so am I! The main purpose of my post was to provide you with as much info on my network as I could muster... in the hopes it would provide you with some new insights into the matter. I...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

FYI, I'm not a gamer. I haven't play a game since God of War 2 on the PS3. So it's probably been around 10 years. My 12 year old twin boys OTOH love to game, lol. Also, we got the R9000 for $200 from an unhappy customer and the GS728TX for $175 from a church that ended out not needing it :D

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

@e38BimmerFN I will try to make a long story short... My buddies, our kids, and their friends all get together for game night a few times a year. The Xbox 360 supported direct LAN connections (I forget the exact term ATM), but the Xbox One changed things up when Microsoft started requiring...

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

@coxhaus Am I on the right track re your layer 3 question? I'm far from being a Networking expert. I welcome any suggestions. Links, walkthroughs, and step-by-step instructions are most welcome, lol :p

NETGEAR "Stealthily" Releases the Nighthawk X6S R7960P

I'm not seeing the R7960P X6S on Amazon, nor an X8S. At any rate, the new X6S sports features the R8000P doesn't (i.e. WAN aggregation for multi-gig Internet, Circle, Dynamic QoS, etc). The only thing I can find that the R8000P has over the R7960P is: AC3600 (600+1300+1625Mbps) versus AC4000...
