    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

I also just noticed that the system time is way off. Its Dec 31, 2013. I have not connected this thing to the internet, so it cannot reach a NTP. How can I set it manually? I set the script to wan-start and got the same thing. No trace of my test string in the system log.

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

I verified permissions are 777. Here is a screenshot of the vi output. I don't see what you described. All I see are a bunch of ~. So just to check, I created a new file with echo '' > newfile Then I copied the text into that file with tail oldfile >> newfile. Then I renamed the file and...

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

I ran the chmod again just to be sure. I have a file called firewall-start in the /jffs/scripts directory. The file is encoded to 1252 ANSI. Here is the contents of the file: #!/bin/sh sleep 10 logger "Beginning Firewall Script" /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT -s 116.10.191.182 -j...

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

Ok cool I will try that. I read the readme. Here is that I dont understand.. In /jffs/scripts I created anew file called firewall-start. Inside of that file, I have the following as a test: #!/bin/sh touch /tmp/000wanstarted logger "Starting Firewall Script" /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT -s...

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

Thanks for the tip. I had already tried WinSCP, but it refuses to connect because it says sftp is not running on the router. I tried several times. I will check out the readme, but creating and editing files in Linux sucks. The ability to do some of that in DD-WRT was nice. If I can find...

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

Ok I have tried setting up some scripts, but I cannot figure it out. For example, I have a bunch of iptables commands. The Wiki does not tell you what to name the file. So I tried firewall-start.sh and firewall-start. I then made it executable, but after reboot I dont see the entries in...

    "How Do I?" from a DD-WRT User

I am brand new to RMerlin so I have a couple questions. I have been using DD-WRT for years on a Asus RT-N16. I upgraded to an Asus RT-AC68U with RMerlin based on some feedback on this forum. I have a couple of specific things that I used to do in DD-WRT that I am not sure how to do on...

    Need High Throughput Router

OK so I have the new router so I am looking for the Merlin FW. In this thread I saw someone talking about sky111. What is that? I want to get this Merlin loaded so I can start moving my network over to it.

    Need High Throughput Router

I finally bought the 68U. So where is the best place to get the firmware and procedures to get RMerlin setup/running?

    Need High Throughput Router

So if the 87U presents those issues, are the Asus RT-AC68U or the Netgear R7000 the best option available? I assume the AC68U has Rmerlin. What's the best OS for the R7000?

    Need High Throughput Router

So with the Asus RT-AC87U, how is the factory firmware? Is it bad? Is RMerlin supported on it yet? Your point is well made and I don't want to have a failing network, but I would like to be as forward leaning as possible if its the best option for the next few years. I don't buy networking...

    Need High Throughput Router

So which router is the head of the class now? Is it the RT-AC87U?

    Need High Throughput Router

Is Linux exposed via ssh with Merlin's? I ask because I have some configuration in Linux and with the scheduled scripts feature of DD-WRT that I may need to keep using. For example, I have a script to workaround a DNS issue in DD-WRT and some iptables commands for firewall blocking. If it...

    Need High Throughput Router

Well it has been a while, but I am finally ready to buy some new equipment. I figured I would revive this thread instead of starting a new one. So the last time I was looking, I think the Asus AC68U was the router recommended. Is that still the case or has it changed? As I recall, you guys...

    Gotcha, thanks.

    Need High Throughput Router

In your opinion, how much of a pain is it to deal with the Rmerlin firmware? Like are there a ton of updates/re-flashes? Is it fairly easy to flash? The feature list definitely make it look better than the Asus version. Any idea how the RMerlin compares to DD-WRT?

    Need High Throughput Router

Thanks a lot for the referral. I did a quick search for sky1111 and there are a ton of threads. I'll try to dig through them when I have more time to read all the threads. So I see the RT-AC68U comes with something called "ASUSWRT". Is that anything like or related to DD-WRT? Are that...

    Need High Throughput Router

wow, ok. Well I don't know about you, but I just don't go buy a new "black box" whenever things aren't working the way I want. I troubleshoot the issue and fix the problem. Now I am not saying that a 4 year old router is something that I shouldn't replace, but my suspicion is that the router...

    Need High Throughput Router

Thanks. I see your point on using a box to manage routing, but I have run a TMG box in the past and would rather not have the overhead, plus I really don't have any free hardware lying around right now. I would prefer to have a device do the work for me. The RT-N16 seems like a great...

    Need High Throughput Router

I am an IT guy (not networking guy) and do a lot of work from my house. I have my lab network and my home network all running through 1 internet connection from Comcast (unfortunately). I have been running this network through an Asus RT-N16 wireless router for a couple years. It is running...
