    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.58 is now available

It doesn't work. I require a WAN Internet port, not LAN. It is possible to setup Internet VLAN ID via wizard only, but it is missing under LAN / IPTV / Manual Setting:

Router web accessibility from WAN/internet when an openvpn client is running

@coldwizard, I tried to use your script openvpn-event-C.txt. It works great when I call it manually. The problem is it does not auto-start with VPN connection. I did set chmod and followed all instructions carefully. Any idea why?

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.58 is now available

No issues here, it's instant. Maybe try reset to factory default.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.58 is now available

Yes it showed when I did the upgrade from 380.57, but once I did reset to factory default, VLAN ID is no longer there... RT-AC56U

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.58 is now available

There is no VLAN ID under IPTV when choosing "manual setting". The only way you can set VLAN ID is to use the internet connection wizard and choose "special requirements from isp". Can this be fixed? There was VLAN ID on 380.57. In my case I need it to access the internet. Although the...

access ISP-blocked sites via proxy/VPN at router level?

Yes, it is super easy with Astrill. Their desktop apps when using OpenWEB (which is proxy-tunnel) allows you to specify URLs that you want to go through proxy or which you wan to exclude. It means you can for example use it for selected websites which are blocked by your ISP. When using VPN...

Cron task VPN reconnect based on ping?

I am using Astrill VPN (via their applet) with private IP and for some reason my ISP seems to have different latencies to the same data center. It would not bother me much if the difference would be negligible, but I am getting as low as 117ms and as high as 220ms. Once the connection with VPN...

    Security question...

Yes, I have also just learned that. However the problem is only when you have private IP at your VPN service provider. All ports are opened and exposed, so make sure your PC firewall is on. If it is a shared IP, you are not exposed though.

    Security question...

Bringing this up, @RMerlin is it possible to setup VPN in conjunction with router's firewall?

    Security question...

It looks like my Astrill's VPN IP is exposed. I am using private IP. Despite having Admin / system web interface WAN access disabled, I can access it from WAN. Question is how to make Astrill VPN working together with firewall? So it can be treated as a WAN and not LAN.

    Security question...

Well, I have never had this problem before. There two things that has changed in the last two days: 1) Started using PPPoE with VLAN tagging 2) Firmware upgrade from 378.56_2 to 380.57 I have always used Astrill VPN applet before and it starts up automatically as well, but again, this has not...

    Security question...

No it is not. It is from Russia and China, example: Mar 8 22:21:21 dropbear[6977]: Exit before auth: Disconnect received Mar 8 22:21:22 dropbear[6978]: Child connection from 182.140.140.21:52798 Mar 8 22:21:25 dropbear[6978]: Login attempt for nonexistent user from 182.140.140.21:52798 Mar...

    Security question...

Same issue as OP. I have however "Allow SSH access from WAN " set to "No", so I should not see such requests in my log? I have SSH enabled but not for WAN. I am running 380.57

[SOLVED] RT-AC56U VLAN ID for WAN not working upon ONT reboot

Problem solved. The only thing I did was to check "Enable VPN + DHCP Connection" to "No" Why would this be "Yes" by default makes me wonder.... No more PADO timeouts, nothing. Merlin please disable this by default.

[SOLVED] RT-AC56U VLAN ID for WAN not working upon ONT reboot

I have searched this forum extensively for similar cases. From the solutions proposed so far, I have put a switch in between my router and ISP ONT modem but it didn't help. When everything is working properly and I will reboot the router or restart WAN, here is what I get: service restart_wan...

[SOLVED] RT-AC56U VLAN ID for WAN not working upon ONT reboot

When I reboot Asus, apparently internet also stops: Aug 1 04:00:57 pppd[497]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets Aug 1 04:01:01 kernel: net_ratelimit: 23 callbacks suppressed Aug 1 04:01:01 kernel: TCP: time wait bucket table overflow Aug 1 04:02:03 kernel: device br0 left promiscuous mode...

[SOLVED] RT-AC56U VLAN ID for WAN not working upon ONT reboot

Problem solved. The only thing I did was to check "Enable VPN + DHCP Connection" to "No" Original post: I am currently using FW 378.56_2 , I am aware there is a newer firmware but didn't have time for upgrading it yet. So basically my new ISP requires PPPoE authentication with VLAN ID 1104...

    Netgear R7000 configuration - 289/600/1300Mbps mode?

So which of these three 5Ghz will have the best wireless coverage? 289 vs 600 vs 1300Mbps? Or it doesn't matter range wise? My R7000 upon upgrading to the newest firmware (V1.0.5.48_1.1.79) had 5Ghz 289Mbps set by default, is there any reason why Netgear would not use a top speed by default?

    Fastest Router for VPN?

Probably the next best router to VPN use is RT-AC88U with 1.4 GHz dual-core processor. It looks like it will be a great replacement for AC56U & AC68U. VPN speed will vary tremendously, we don't know: - which VPN is OP using - what's the latency to the server he is connecting to - which...

378.56_2 - has resolved "ntp not in sync" issue for me. Has the reason of this issue been found?
