Draft 802.11ac Revealed! Buffalo WZR-D1800H AirStation Reviewed

Did Netgear do the N to AC comparison during lunchtime? They brought in a dozen leaky microwave ovens and asked their staff to cook popcorn at the same time their marketing guy was onstage doing the test. Must be, there's no other rational answer. In the video they posted, after 90 seconds...

Draft 802.11ac Revealed! Buffalo WZR-D1800H AirStation Reviewed

The $10,000 question. ;) At the very least wait for Tim to complete his review of the Buffalo router to make sure they (Broadcom) didn't screw up legacy connectivity. Asssuming all is OK, then I suppose there's no real harm in buying an ac router. Just take note that its possible some...

Draft 802.11ac Revealed! Buffalo WZR-D1800H AirStation Reviewed

Would have been a complete waste of your time to attend that dog and pony show. Unless they gave a case of free ac equipment to all attendees. :) they likely used 1 stream with a 5Ghz signal jammer running in the background. upgradable routers? Has any OEM touted their...

Draft 802.11ac Revealed! Buffalo WZR-D1800H AirStation Reviewed

I didn't sleep all last night waiting for you to post the preview. :p Interesting that the single client max wifi throughput was not really better than 3 stream N. I am intrigued by the max 5Ghz wifi throughput in multi client environments. Could be useful in busy offices where...

Buffalo Draft 802.11ac Router and Bridge

Tim I know better, but one can hope. Now, get back to work and finish up that Buffalo preview. Its 7:20p and its still not posted. :D

Buffalo Draft 802.11ac Router and Bridge

Tim, look forward to the preview. Would also be cool to see if the 802.11ac 5Ghz radio can help 802.11n 5Ghz range and throughput at further distance. Hope you eventually test that scenario as well.

    need wireless

storage attached to router will be slow, but if every client is connecting via wifi it probably won't be a huge issue. Check Tim's review of the N66U. You can also look at the Netgear WNDR4500. Since Tim's review Netgear improved NTFS performance. At this time the WNDR4500 has no signs of...

Problems with WNDR3700 and Lexmark wifi printers.

Not sure about trondah, but try this respected firmware based on OpenWRT. http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download.php Be sure to download the correct version for your WNDR3700 (check if V1 or V2).

    DIY Builds, Lessons Learned

Greg Great advice. A few notes from me. 1) Motherboard - I agree with you on Supermicro. Good stuff. How about Intel? They are one of the few that will offer advance replacements if necessary. Try getting that out of one of the Taiwan/China manufacturers. Plus Intel builds a quality...

    Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 4? QNAP 419PII? 459 Pro+? Synology DS411+II? DS412+?

You are on the right track. LAG, not really important if the throughput doesn't exceed GigE. I don't believe any of these 4 bay units exceeds 100MB/s so don't worry about LAG. Consider warranty and how OEM handles repairs. Netgear is likely best, followed by Syno and last Qnap. Yes, some...

    RT-N66U -- DDNS problems?

If OP is using his N66U as a router there is no need to open ports to use DYNDNS. Its also unlikely he needs to open ports if the N66U is used as an AP behind a gateway. See here: http://dyn.com/support/developers/api/perform-update/ Some routers do not update unless the IP changes. So...

    Best 3-antennae N router

You're kidding, right? Not everyone uses Wifi for conencting solely to Internet. LAN users will appreciate 100+Mb/s speeds over Wifi. I do use wired when appropriate. Unfortunately its not convenient everywhere in my home or office.

    NAS for small bus.

Are you on domain? Are you sure you want to dump Win Server? Lose all the benefits of active directory and policy? Maybe consider Win Server 2011 Essentials. Easy setup and management. Way more power than NAS.

    Best 3-antennae N router

I can consistently get 116Mb/s down - 108Mb/s up using 5Ghz @ 20 foot distance through one sheetrock wall with my WNDR4500. 10-15% less @ 35 feet. Same test @ 2.4Ghz is about 20-25% less mostly due to crowded 2.4 @ this location. Client is Intel 6205 running 15.1 driver. Btw, I also...

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

I had set mine to port 443. So, I hope its really fixed. Thanks for the quick reply. If you want to send the beta to test I'm happy to do so. Just do it soon as I may not keep the N66U past next week.

ASUS RT-N66U Dark Knight Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router Reviewed

Yes, shipping firmware for the 4500 was a disaster. I recall the N66U had the same sort of problem. Trouble with Netgear is they often take a long time to implement new firmware into factory production. This is a mistake as they run the risk of chasing people away who become frustrated by the...
