Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

That 97% is probably a combination of regular router activity + Wireguard. Based on the other cores, I suspect that only half of that 97% is actually from WG. It's quite possible that if that first core is already busy with other activities, then WG may rely more heavily on the other available...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

WG is multithreaded. It's not tied to a single core, as you can see in your test results.

    XT12 ethernet port 3 yellow?

Check what device is on that port. Some devices are still limited to 100 Mbps, like VoIP ATAs or many smart TVs.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

OpenVPN is unchanged - it will always use the next core, skipping the first one (unless running client 4 on a quad-core, in which case it will end up on core 0). Wireguard is in kernel-space, so there's no CPU affinity that can be adjusted. It should be multicore.

    Disappointed with Merlin

Guest network code is 100% identical to stock firmware, I haven't made any change to it, or to wifi connectivity.

RT-BE86U - how to disable Smart connect?

Smart Connect is no longer a toggle with the new Network UI design. You need to remove all extra bands currently allocated to the primary wifi SSID, and create separate SSIDs for each band. If you have one SSID with multiple bands, then Smart Connect is automatically enabled/used. I don't...

    NIST password recommendations

Some very good recommendations from NIST regarding passwords. Opting for longer passwords for instance rather than short and overly complicated is a win-win: easier to memorize, and still more secure. Also, password expiry has to die. How many users are ending up with a Post-It on their...

Risk level remotely connecting to router webui over http?

Brute force weakness has nothing to do with these security vulnerabilities. Key-based authentication was still susceptible to issues such as CVE-2024-6387 or CVE-2023-48795. The latter required a lot of emergency patching for anyone who had an SSH daemon exposed to the naked Internet.

    GT-BE98 ASUS firmware to merlin

Gnuton's fork IS official. He specifically supports models that I do not or cannot support.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

Just for additional clarification: there are some "security" changes done by Asus which will absolutely not be implemented in Asuswrt-Merlin. For instance, among these recent security changes, Asus now prevents using mount with certain paths. This is something that I will not implement...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

It doesn't contain every fixes in 388_24323, and 388_24323 doesn't contain every fixes that are in 388.4_4 either. You can't compare them. 388.8_4 contains the most important fixes from 388_24323.

***** Malware Alert: Phishing ads on this website! *****

That is just related to the forum permissions in an attempt to help me better take care of spammers, nothing more. I already stated so in a previous post. You are trying really hard to find ways to link Asus with SNBForums and trying to read more into a situation without having any actual...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.2 is now available for Wifi 7 devices

I have particular requirements, so I get the code directly from Asus.

You have it backward. I am a moderator only so I can help with the moderation of the traffic my users might be bringing here. I don't own nor admin this forum, thiggins does. I have no financial, legal or ownership ties with these forums. What hardware I receive from Asus benefits in no way...

***** Malware Alert: Phishing ads on this website! *****

The question is, why is there only one single person so far who seems to be seeing these ads (and it's always pushing the exact same site)? I have been actually paying attention to the ads pushed to me here over the past two days, and they all are fairly legitimate. I have been interacting...

Which one should I keep, Qnap TVS h674 I5 or Synology DS 1821+

Unless mistaken, the DS1812+ is already EOL, and therefore is no longer receiving software updates. If this is for a production environment, it might be best to go with the QNAP one.

They all seem to be from the same site. More info on that particular case: https://malwaretips.com/blogs/securedjointnetwork/

News PuTTY v0.82 Released Today 2024-11-27

Last night was actually the first time I used VS Code for a code merge after relying on nano for the past 10 years. It at least makes the copy/pasting from .rej files much easier, and works fairly well in an SSH connection with my dev VM. I don't use its built-in git integration however...
