    Lots of good advice here. Consider drawing a map of each floor and creating one large wiring diagram. The fundamental model: MODEM => ROUTER => SWITCHES (optional) => WIRING => ENDPOINTS (Ethernet jacks / APs) Your POE injector could be in SWITCHES.

    Why not terminate CAT5 / CAT 6 with RJ45 and connect them directly to a switch? It's easy and you can verify each connection with an Ideal Linkmaster testkit.

    My phone lines reach into every corner of the house and were wired with CAT5 and I use 4 of the 8 conductors for 100 Megabit Ethernet. I don't really use the other 4 conductors for POTS, so I really should just rewire everything for Gigabit Ethernet.

    Is your device on a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply)? If not, there is no way to know if it is a power issue. I keep my router and modem on a UPS. Posting the logs to pastebin would provide the experts the information needed to diagnosis root cause.
