New Around Here
Hi,

I'm running fimeware 378.54_2.
I'm having two issues with my USB connected drives. Last night I had a power outage. After the power was restored I'm having trouble with my samba shares. I've hit reboot in the GUI several times and every time the router boots up it has a different outcome.

1. Sometimes the USB 2.0 drive comes up as Elements(1) instead of Elements. Because of this, my scripts refering to this share are failing.

2. Sometimes the USB 3.0 drive is not mounted at all. But if I reboot the router, sometimes it is mounted, sometimes not.

This has happened before and I just kept rebooting until both drives were mounted correctly. But that is hardly practical. And so far this time I've been out of luck. Is there anything I can do to permanently fix this?

Cheers

Try connecting them to a computer and run a repair on them. The surge might have pushed them over the edge.

I've tried connecting them to a pc and repairing. This had no effect.
Also: This is not new behaviour. This has happened more than once. Most of the times I had to reboot several times (two or three times).

This time I got lucky after eight reboots.

I like to keep my routers / modems on UPS to protect from surges and maintain continuity of power. I find it is worth the cost. I use an WD NAS so as to keep it simple.

No, I don't think I power cycle the router. I just press reboot on the main page in the gui.

With past firmwares, after a momentary loss of mains I had a similar problem with the attached drive. Only a power cycle was able to fully recover the problem.
It means detach the power supply and all the attached cables, wait 5 minutes and then reattach everything and boot. Don't forget to unmount all your drives before switching off the router.
