    DNSPrivacy with strict VPN

Normally all my traffic including DNS routes through my VPN (exclusive). If I enable DNS over TLS in Merlin, will the DNSPrivacy traffic still travel through the VPN? In other words, will the DNSPrivacy resolvers see my IP or the VPNs?

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

You probably are right about the exaggerated 400mbps measurement I saw from from openspeedtest.com, (I mentioned it in the past) but everything is going through the VPN (strict policy). The actual burst speed is around 175mbps tested from speedtest-cli, through AC86U on router OpenVPN without...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

I'm seeing AESNI handle over 400mbps OpenVPN without the CPU even registering 50% load on a single core. The LZO compression is probably allowing bandwith even beyond the ISPs maximum. LZ4 would even be better but my VPN hasn't implemented it.

Can the update interval on Merlin's VPN - Status be increased?

status status 1 Worked a charm. Thanks!

Can the update interval on Merlin's VPN - Status be increased?

The VPN-Statust tab allows monitoring of every VPN instance. It works quite well however only updates once every several seconds. Is it possible to increase the update interval to several times per second for real-time monitoring?

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

I don't think LAN throughput was my bottleneck. Certain low traffic IOT devices where somehow dragging down the entire VPN tunnels speed to where browsers where getting less than 10mbps. By isolating my browsers to a dedicated VPN slot I am seeing more like close to my ISP bandwidth 100mbps...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

After two years I solved my slowdown issue by isolating VPN clients into several Merlin VPN slots as detailed here. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/can-distibuting-devices-over-seperate-merlin-vpn-instances-increase-throughput.61474/#post-545801

Can distibuting devices over seperate Merlin VPN instances increase throughput?

My VPN allows multiple connections on the router so I went ahead and segmented desktops, wireless, tvs ect into several different VPN slots in Merlin. The difference is night and day. I had slowdown problems for a year that this has fixed. Now I am easily getting 2-3x consistently. I suggest...

Can distibuting devices over seperate Merlin VPN instances increase throughput?

For instance putting a browsing PC on a separate VPN slot as a internet TV. It seems like combining all devices through a single VPN can lead to a single misbehaving device to slow down the tunnel for all devices. Router CPU itself isn't breaking a sweat.

Cloudflare over DOT showing Singapore on DNS tests

It turns out it's the VPNs DNS showing Singapore, even when DNS Privacy is activated with Cloudflare. I thought DNS Privacy would override pushed DNS. If not, what's the point?

Cloudflare over DOT showing Singapore on DNS tests

Yes, even a sandboxed fresh profile firefox reports Singapore. dnsleaktest.com shows USA Strange

Cloudflare over DOT showing Singapore on DNS tests

Using the DNS Privacy feature of Merlin my ac86u set to Cloudflare servers 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. IPleaks reports both a Singapore IP and DNS address, I am in the USA. Otherwise the connection seems to work. Is this expected? edit: tested on https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ and it reports the same...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

Good to know, I was using openspeedtest.net for quick benchmarks and I noticed it is wildly inaccurate compared to speedtest-cli from terminal. Sometimes openspeedtest was reporting 400Mbps+ when my ISP speed is around 200Mpbs. IPv6 is off in modem and router. Speedtest-cli shows ~150Mbps tops.

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

Thanks. One thing I found is my VPN over TCP maintains speed better than over UDP. When the router is reset and the VPN tunnel freshly created I see over 400Mbps with the 86U's CPU barely breaking a sweat. The 86U's AESNI is extremely fast and barely bogs down the CPU which is why I got it...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

Coming back to this issue, unresolved after over a year. Blaming the VPN or the outlet doesn't make sense when the slowing down only happens on router vpn. Desktop/client VPNs maintain full speed indefinitely. Also blaming VPN speeds makes no sense when a fresh reset router can ping 10ms and get...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

Some findings, I don't have to reboot the router to get full speed VPN, simply disabling then re-enabling the Internet connection in Merlin will get full speed VPN (150mbps+). It slows down within a couple hours. I wonder if OpenVPN can be configured to reconnect every hour to maintain full...

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

Yes I know, this isn't what we are discussing. The VPN works full speed except when running on the 86u, which is capable of 200Mbps+ consistently.

Advice needed - VPN speed slows down, have to turn on off once a day

I have the exact same problem on 86u with latest Merlin. After a router reset I get over 100Mbps through the router OpenVPN connection. It gradually declines to under 1Mbps within 24 hours. On router reset I get full speed again. 86U CPU is barely active, AES-NI can do 200Mbps+ in router OpenVPN...

Download Master both CPUs red lining 100% with one small torrent

Fair enough. I was thinking that gateway Torrent apps probably expose some large security risks. I have an old RT56 I may flash into a seedbox though works well enough behind main router. I'm not seeding anything wonky, lectures and don't care stuff to gain some credits.

Download Master both CPUs red lining 100% with one small torrent

Thanks I think you are right. Oddly, some trackers are identifying my Download Master as Transmission/2.92 (which they don't allow). I wonder if Asus relabeled to DM. I wonder why Merlin doesn't just integrate open source Transmission or Rtorrent by default, it seems like DM has never worked...
