Download Master both CPUs red lining 100% with one small torrent

Running on a 86u which has quite a fast CPU. DM works but I notice both CPUs peaking constantly, even with one small torrent.
Oddly, under "Tools - System Information" "CPU Load Average" shows only 5% average CPU use.
I've tried lowering Global Maximum connection but not any difference.
Latest firmware and DM.

DM master kind of sucks, try loading transmission onto it instead. Even then i eventually went to a dedicated box because it would use too much CPU on the router.

Thanks I think you are right. Oddly, some trackers are identifying my Download Master as Transmission/2.92 (which they don't allow). I wonder if Asus relabeled to DM. I wonder why Merlin doesn't just integrate open source Transmission or Rtorrent by default, it seems like DM has never worked well.

I'll report back after switching.

edit:
I did find DM is basically using an old Transmission backend:

Fair enough. I was thinking that gateway Torrent apps probably expose some large security risks. I have an old RT56 I may flash into a seedbox though works well enough behind main router. I'm not seeding anything wonky, lectures and don't care stuff to gain some credits.

A $20 raspberry Pi makes for a great download device if you have nothing else to use. Personally I run transmission on my NAS, which I personally think is the most appropriate device for torrenting since the files (in my case) will be stored there.

IMO routers should be used for routing and as little else as possible. :)

Really a NAS should be for storage only, but there's a lot of feature creep these days.

Considering all the other possible apps for a NAS these days, and all the functions people in these forums are putting oin their routers, torrenting (IMO) is the perfect function for a unit that sits idle 95% of the time otherwise. Running NAS functions (or DM) off a router, to me, makes absolutely no sense.

I'm not disagreeing that NAS devices have become synonymous with a mini-server these days, but for the true definition, a NAS device should be for storing/serving files and that's it

I assume that you've taken the relevant isolation steps so that your torrent application doesn't run with full access to the file storage!
