kernel: Dead loop on virtual device vlan2, fix it urgently!

@roldogg Unfortunately, the community has made it clear that you need to learn how to use the Search feature. So, guess what? I found out that I needed to learn how to use it too. And I found the post you need. Time to share the secret of Search. Go to the "ASUS Wireless" forum, and...

    Syslog for inbound NATed traffic???

SOLVED - Syslog for inbound NATed traffic??? SOLVED - See end of post. With the whole Shellshock vulberability going around, it is time for me to assess the syslog and I'm seeing that none of my external NAT'ed web services are being logged by my RT-AC68U. Doh! I found this thread which...

How to configure Samba Share on RT-N66U...

Sometimes you need to enable the "SMB signing" features manually in the smb.conf. Your work computer is a terrible system to test with as your company will likely enforce certain settings. But a personal PC can be tweaked. I don't know the defaults for a ASUS router, but my qnap nas had smb...

    Asus router firmware security

FYI, one of the potentially concerning issues that could easily be exploited from a browser is the generic XSS issue.

    Asus router firmware security

This is using nessus from Tenable. They have a free Home edition.

    Asus router firmware security

any idea if the fact that SMB is active on my AC68U is a bug? (unless there is some odd place to disable SMB I think I got them all shutdown) I saw the old thread from early this year about the WAN access to 445. Could this be a similar issue? NEVERMIND: "Set as WINS server"

    Asus router firmware security

I have just decided to do my first nessus scan of my router and found the issues to be concerning. Device: RT-AC68U Firmware: RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.43_2 (Merlin build) I know this isn't Merlins issue, but I wanted to make sure that folks were aware of how bad things look at the device if any...

Just bought TS-651 and 22TB of storage

I am hoping to get it Wednesday and set it up by Sunday night. I plan on installing 8GB memory first, then checking each HDD's idle3 values, then running some recommended diagnostics (can't recall which) Then placing a COPY of my data onto the NAS. This will be 1 4TB RAID1 encrypted volume...

Please tell me it'll be running a kernel starting with '3'. The IPSEC note is odd....

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.42_2 is out

Understood, that is why I'm asking about other portions of the web service - like the wireless survey feature - which would just load up SSID's from random local devices. Or the hostname field, that pulls in the "hostname", some how, of the devices on the network.
  11. F

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.42_2 is out

That is a seemingly concerning issue. While not very dangerous with your own SSID, does the survey feature fall prey to this type of issue? As that could allow a javascript borne attack I think. If someone set up an SSID of "openwifi'<script>alert(""XSS"");</script>", that might perform an...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.41 is out

Merlin - any chance you've seen this? I think the Logging issue is a bug. Just trying to confirm others are seeing this as well.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.41 is out

ipv6 broken possibly and logging broken Here is what I'm seeing on my RT-AC68U: logging has a broken setting I think. "Logged packets type" will only be set to Dropped, when I try to set it to Both. Confirmed fixed when I revert to ASUS 5047. IPv6 has become nonexistent. I did also update...

...and for those looking for some pixie dust for their RT-N66U...

FYI, not that I was too hopeful but for anyone interested my Galaxy Nexus was unable to connect on 5Ghz, so this does not help there. (its likely a hardware issue)

    IPv6 security

Just trying to help - but I didn't read up on the topic first. Hmm...based on SaintDev, this might be looking like a device issue. I'm not sure that Comcast is doing anything outside RFC - or accepted practice. Especially since it is a new world of ipv6. Putting lots of clients in the same...

    IPv6 security

Actually there isn't any "broadcast" traffic in ipv6. Its multicast and is technically handled differently by receivers. Which leads me to this find. Is this a related issue/fix in this post...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.372.32 Beta 3 available

Its an HE connection on a RT-N66U. A reboot of the router fixed the issue. It is definitely the router, since I power on the Ubuntu PC every day. I just noticed there was no ipv6 today. When the router restarted it grabbed an ipv6 address. Is this normal that a reboot after applying...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.372.32 Beta 3 available

I am now trying out beta3 since 2 days ago (1 day 15 hrs ago) and I just noticed that my client (that has been rebooted) is not getting an IPv6 address. This was working in beta1 as I indicated in the ipv6 thread. Any chance this is a firmware issue? I retained my beta1 config during the...

    IPv6 security

Actually from RFC 4890 (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4890.txt) the recommendation is that Echo Request/Response "Must Not Be Dropped". This is a recommendation RFC, but ICMP takes on a more important role in IPv6. Various apps/services could begin to rely on this connectivity. (Teredo...
