RV016 gateway to gateway vpn setup

I've always had them as the only edge device....is there a reason you have a router in front of it? Can the local tools on each RV0 get replies from pinging the LAN IP of the "other" router on the other end? Does the VPN tunnel status show as "up"?

    Site to Site VPN Performance

"A chain is only as strong as its weakest link".....uplink will hurt. When you're home....and you open/download things from the server...you are relying on the uplink of the connection that feeds the office where the server is.... just under 1 meg. Add to that...overhead from the VPN tunnel...

router (no wifi) & router (AP-only)

I'd reset that router to factory defaults, and consider updating the firmware on it. Also make sure your browser is clean from adware toolbars and BHOs....I've seen infected web browser have issues when working on some web pages (which is what most routers administration panel is controlled...

Windows Gurus: I'm stumped on netBIOS issue

What are the machines using for DNS? Your routers LAN IP? Or some external DNS IP?

Network help over VPN beyond confused

Is this all peer to peer/workgroup? Or are you running a domain, active directory? A lot of it depends on your DNS..if you're running active directory. If you're just doing peer to peer...it doens't work well. Can try lmhosts files..but then you have to setup all computers on static IPs...

    rv042 pptp vpn help!

You have 2 different gateways on the same LAN...devices that use the RV0 as their gateway will be accessible. I agree...ditch the other router, use the RV0 as your edge and utilize its dual WAN ports. What do you mean the RV0 won't do ICMP?

    VPN Newbie...whats needed?

You need a router at home that supports VPN connections to it. Preferred is a static IP account from your ISP, but it can also work OK if you have a dynamic DNS service too. However...over recent years there are much easier methods to allow you to securely connect to your PC(s) at...

Best Dual WAN for Cable + DSL?

"Best" router? Want to build one? How big is your budget? Or just a good suggestion for a home user with a home user budget and not an enterprise company budget? Because some answers to "Best dual WAN router" can give you sticker shock with some high end devices in the tens of thousands of...

    Basic Cable Routing Question

For a home, IMO going patch panel is overkill....but if you have the budget for it...hey, get it looking fancy. I wire up networks for businesses with patch panels....but those are large numbers of drops, and the patch panel helps keep things neat and organized. Don't worry about weight of...

    What is the Best ADSL-Modem-Router

I actually prefer owning my own modem....when it comes to cable ISPs it makes a difference. But with the phone company (DSL)...you already do own it..you bought it with the setup fees when your account got setup...if it blows up...YOU pay for a new one. Some ISPs replace it for free, others...

    DNS Server

Some routers handle it better/differently than others, but like GregN said above...using your routers local DNS helps peer to peer networks (such as home/small offices) name resolution work better...if you're doing file/print sharing and such.....because the routers local DNS service will hold a...

    What is the Best ADSL-Modem-Router

Well...your first goal is to get one that will be compatible with your ISP. Many will have specialized firmware particular to an ISP....although if you're familiar with them you can get most of them working with any ISP. I'm very fond of the Netopia line (used to be Cayman...has since...

    RV082 slow WAN speed

Do you have the latest firmware? Try setting the MTU on the WAN port you're using manually to 1500. Have you setup the QoS on it?

    dumping a croak

I lost 2 of mine after the hurricane (Irene). I usually go through many of them due to trying new ones, flashing with various firmware ever since DD-WRT, Hyper-WRT, Tomato first came out. I've had 2 or 3 of them brick up while fiddling with firmware....I've been lucky enough to get all of...

    good router

Must say I'm very pleased with the e3000..arrived yesterday, reorganized my network soon as I got home. Even powered down my linux firewall and put the e3000 as my router/AP. (usually I hang it off the inside of my network just as an AP). Fast...fast fast. Blows the doors off of my...

Today I shopped on a budget...had to get a quick replacement router for my home, as my wrt150n died....so one of my older G routers is in place for a while Cruised Newegg...they have some factory refurbished e3000 models for 69 bucks. So I snagged one. If I were to shop brand new with a fatter...

My adventures with choosing an on-line storage provider

As someone that works with Microsoft products all the time, I can't believe I've ignored Windows Live Mesh for so long. I actually used it a couple of weeks ago to "transfer" stuff from my old dying laptop, to my new laptop. And while at it...with my office workstation. My Documents, pics...

    MoCa Questions

The connection is horrible on the Netgears....I just did 2x network jobs with a pair of those kits, all 4 units required plugging the adapter into the back of the unit several times. Plug it in..unplug..plug it in...unplug..firmly. After 3 or 4 times you'll see it light up.

    RV042 hardware v1 and v3 intermittent

Tim, I'm putting Untangle in across the board. I'm installing it on hardware provided by www.UntangleAppliances.com At the main office, I'm using their beefier NG-100 model, and at the satellite offices located in a couple of nearby courthouses and police stations, I'm using their little NG-25...
