    AiMesh Node fails to install

Possibly, but article said what wouldn't work was asuswrt primary and melin node. Only downside to using both primary and secondary as melin was lack of auto update. Prior to ac68u biting the dust, both nodes were on Merlin

    AiMesh Node fails to install

I have rt-ax86u as my primary router. Was trying to setup an rt-ac86u as an aimesh node. Primary has Merlin 300.388.4 installed and the node has Merlin 386.12 installed. I factory reset the ac86u and powered it on - placing it within 8 feet of ax86u. There were no cables (other than power)...

    Reconfiguring system - which approach?

Currently have an AI Mesh system - AC86U is primary and AC68U is mesh node. Long story short, AC68U has bit the dust. I have ordered an AX86U as my new system. Regardless of following alternatives (which I will explain), I presume my first step is from the Web interface of the AC86U, remove...

    DNS Services

And why not Cloudfare? I've heard mostly good about them.

    DNS Services

OK - following the gist of the advice given, I have let the WAN page alone (it does point to Cloudfare and has TLS specified. On the LAN/DHCP page, I point DNS Server1 to pi-hole and do not advertise routers IP; and on the DNS filter page, I have Global set to Router and entered in the MAC...

    DNS Services

Ok - made the changes you suggested: On the LAN/DHCP page, made DNS1 point to pi-hole. On DNS filter page, Global was set to router, and for the client list, i insert Raspberry Pi's address with No Filtering. WAN page I left alone. On the plus side, client activity still works, and appears to...

    DNS Services

I apologize in advance for this post to the extent it has been answered in previous postings. I make this post for 1 basic reason, no where can I find a posting that basically ties all the options together to allow one to make a rational choice.. A) On the WAN tab. Once can let ISP (default...

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Much to consider. Thanks for all the feedback.

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Yep, As I said, "Looking for a solution in search of a problem". What would be nice is if a single AX router could replace my 2 node mesh system.

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Actually, as I read about Media Bridge, it is a wireless connection from main router to the Media Bridge, and then wired to the media devices. Seems like it would be more solid to set it up in AP mode and just turn off the radios.

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Prior to getting the AC86U, I had a single router (AC68U) located in the bedroom closet. Had a weak but "usable" signal in the kitchen. And phone calls (VOIP) often dropped when in the kitchen area. There is an ethernet drop in the kitchen, and I hooked Wife's laptop up to that, She was not...

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Thanks! All makes sense. The one problem area in our house is my where my wife sits with her laptop in the kitchen. Long story short - entry point of internet to our house (the wiring closet) is in the SE corner of the house. The primary router (the 86U sits on the top shelf of the closet...

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

I currently have 300 Mbs (reciprocal), My office PC is wire connected to the AC86U. The AC68U is the AI mesh node with wired backhaul. Ethernet connection there to my family room TV. About 15 IOT type devices (Echos, Ring Doorbell, Ecobee Thermostat, TP Link plugs, etc.). 2 Laptops that do...

Yeah - but no tax deduction for that! :)

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Fair enough what you suggest - but I will say this with regard to the two routers I currently have, I have not had issues with either one (so far) over the years, As for the AX86S, seems to be notably different than an AX86U. The lack of the 2.5 GHz port and only 1 USB 3 port don't really...

Looking for a solution in search of a problem :)

Currently have an AC86U as a primary router and an AC68U as a mesh node (backhaul is ethernet). Basically it works fine; have no real speed issues - video streams just fine. But if I were to add an AX router (thinking of AX68U) to the mix to get WiFi 6 coverage in the home, my thought was to 1)...

    Can't Turn Off VPN Client

Ok - wouldn't say problem is solved, but it is fixed. After futzing around with various settings, but the client kept coming back as if nothing was wrong, I then rebooted, logged back in and navigated to the client gave and it had error on connection. Turned off client - and this time it went...

    Can't Turn Off VPN Client

This issue has been going on for at least several weeks - and router is rebooted every Tuesday morning at 3am. I have navigated to the router from two different computers - one running Windows 11, the other Windows 10. No clients are connected to the VPN. The server for this vpn client is an...

    Can't Turn Off VPN Client

OK - tried the SSH approach first - value came back "2" - still connected. I clicked on "Default" at bottom - accepted the warning that this would put the client back to it's default state - and then clicked apply. Client stayed "On" with a connection to the vpn server. I entered an invalid...

    Can't Turn Off VPN Client

Can't believe not a single suggestion/comment on this. Appears to be an obvious bug to firmware. Certainly not a design feature. Ideas, anybody?
