    USB-toWiFi Adapter for Scanner?

Most scanners seem to have USB, and those which have wireless mandate WPS as the only way of associating. Well I have a professional setup and there is no infernal WPS. So I'm looking at putting a usb-to-wifi adapter on the scanner's USB port so it can join the LAN, but it appears that all...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Yes I took off the heat-transfer pads after I took the pic, but it wouldn't have helped as the printing is so faint it was almost impossible to read even with my Coil glasses. The center chip is a Mediatek MT7621AT 5 port switch. Upper two chips are Mediatek MT7615N highly-integrated AP chips...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

True, when GS support told me I have to have the "unauthorized" seller de-register it in their 'cloud', I passed that along to the seller. Quickly I got an email from the seller basically saying, "Ok, Ok, send it back and I'll give you a full refund." (hmm) I don't want a big loogie hanging...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

So I cast around to Aruba, Cisco, Netgear, Ruckus, etc, and asked on SmallNetBuilder, and Trip recommended Grandstream. I checked them out and they're the scrappy upstart with great equipment at low prices now AND the controller is -built in- to the device. One AP is the master, and you can...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

I do seem to have wifi calling enabled but I can't be sure. With wifi on I see network traffic while the call is established, but no more during the call; it may be below the reporting threshold. The real test will be tomorrow. More good news is that wifi calls are made over a military-grade...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

I have exactly the same problem with calls dropped, especially infuriating when I've been on hold for 45 minutes. (I'm over a hill, TMobile) But it never occurred to me to try wifi calling. Hmm, it seems that the Moto X4 (non-Amazon versions) does wifi calling, HD voice, volte, Hotspot, and...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Thanks coxhaus, but I'd lived 50 years in Dallas and that was just enough. No women. Open the door first thing in the morning and the heat slaps you in the face... There was a time when Ubiquiti was an off-brand. But I could see the merit in their products, and early reviews were almost...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Wow, just what I was looking for Trip. I now understand what ppl here were talking about, the "controller". In UBNT's case it's their proprietary app or their 'cloud'. But it can also be actually built in to the AP, which it turns out is what I've been looking for. As is evident above...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

The current control software -requires- you to log into UBNT. I tried it. I'm not stupid. I don't require WPS. I hate WPS. The scanner I have only does WPS. This is the only scanner I have to hand, and I needed a scanner today. Bottom line is I am fed up with UBNT. That's why I'm asking...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Trip understood me right; I could have said it better. I do want 5GHz, beam-steering, and especially mesh networking. The WAP581 looks good, but I strongly suspicion it mandates their sneaky cloud-based connexion. What're they sniffing around my sh*t for anyway?

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Not sure what a local-only controller option is, but it doesn't need to have a 5GHz only option, although it must have 5GHz. I find that there is now 6GHz, but that often devices claim two 6GHz protocols but don't actually have them. (OFDM?) Maybe 6GHz is like 802.11n was, in the beginning --...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

The Netgear Nighthawk MK62 (MR60) seems to have quite good reviews overall. Only thing is I can not find anywhere whether it's PoE. G**gle is baffled. The WAN port does have a yellow line under it, but the specs look like somebody had a stroke before writing them. It's not Netgear...

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

Not impressed with routers. My router VM is specifically configured for my purposes and I have complete control. Almost all appliance routers have been compromised at one point or another, whereas a general OS like CentOS has lots of security attention, aside from my own.

Noted, thanks. I know nothing about them. Personally I don't trust DLink or Linksys. High regard for Netgear's commercial products, but betting they require their 'cloud' control. Do not -want- 'cloud' control. Very security-minded.

It's what I have to hand. As Rumsfeld said, "You don't fight with the army you -want-, you fight with the army you -have-." You must be running an old version of Control. Band-aid for a gaping wound.

Finally Sick of UBNT. Need AP -Without- Corp. Network

<rant>I am finally fed up with Ubiquiti's requirement that a) You MUST use their proprietary control software, which will not install on RHEL so I have to keep a Windows VM; and b) Now they MANDATE that you connect everything to UBNT's corporate servers. Well, what are they up to, doing that...

    What is Wrong With Quantenna?

Actually, there is good reason for it. Would that M$ have been doled the same... but they are too big to be punished.

    What is Wrong With Quantenna?

Yes, but in MU:MIMO mode both sides need to be MU:MIMO -- AP for beamforming, and client to provide channel and telemetry info. stevech, too late, they've just agreed to a $1b fine to China. EU is probably next. All this is already factored in.

    What is Wrong With Quantenna?

I've extensively searched on these issues and find only bits and pieces from many sources, so there isn't one reference. Most of my research though branches off from https://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_802.11ac_Hardware#Chipsets http://www.fiercewireless.com/tech/...

    What is Wrong With Quantenna?

thiggins, It's all very nice to have routers with MU:MIMO, but there are no client cards; ie miniPCIe. I know of 3 in addition to those you cite, but I'm not bothering to look them up as it doesn't matter. What's the use of routers without client cards? How can there not be client cards...
