    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

How does the router know "where" it is? There is a longstanding UK bug where left on Auto at 5GHz it uses the channels above 100 which actually are not allowed. But although it selects it, it isn't really using it....you get no signal. So I have to force it to a channel like 48. I have always...

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

You are not going to get a yes/no answer, because different people are having different experiences. It is a suck it and see right now. But don't forget this is not a one way journey. If you have the older firmware files downloaded, you can very easily revert back....no harm done!

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

I appreciate what you are saying but if you are streaming a Blu-ray over WiFi where the source is hard-wired to the router, the transmit from the router is far more important. Yes there are acks and other control signals from the receiving end, but they are much less critical.

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

I have done an NVRAM wipe. it has made no difference to the signal strength at 5GHz. It is definitely lower with this new .372 update compared to the Beta version. And on top of that, I am not seeing any change when increasing the TX power.

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

I share the findings in terms of power output although my iPad 2 is fine on 5GHz. Something is worse in the final .372 vs the early access one. I can see this very simply using my WUMC710 bridge which gives a signal quality reading. Put the "beta" 372 on and it reads 50% signal quality...put the...

    RT-AC66R ----> Bridge

I understand that the best wireless bridge with the RT-AC66 is the Linksys WUMC710

two ac66u no media bridge connection via 5ghz?

There is a massive bug with the AUTO channel allocation at 5GHz. In the UK, channels above 48 are not allowed, yet the auto channel selects it anyway...but its not really working! Try and manually set the channel to 48 and see if that cures it!

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

Yes but memory leaks, race conditions and things like this rarely have a reproducible test case unless you get very lucky. In order to narrow down the true cause, a diagnostic firmware build should be created that logs specifics about signal strength or whatever else the developers feel...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

My understanding is beamforming is needed at both ends. What makes things worse is that Netgear have decided to go it alone with Beamforming+ which only works between their own kit. The real issue is that the standard for AC has taken far too long to finalise and when this happens...

Do you feel Asus has abandoned support for the AC66U?

Maybe I have the wrong perception, but it feels like Asus has given up with the AC66U. It has quite a lot of issues with the radio performance such as 5Ghz power dropping etc. The latest firmware .354 has been in Beta for months, and prior to that there was nothing for ages. Now Asus announce...

HTC One has AC, doesn't work with RT-AC66U

Just tried the Beta .352 release and it fixed the problem!

HTC One has AC, doesn't work with RT-AC66U

So compatibility issues are now appearing. I just got an HTC One which has AC compatibility (new handset just released last week). It sees my 5GHz AC WiFi network, but hangs trying to get the IP address for about 2 minutes, and tries over and over. It connects just fine to the 2.4Ghz signal...

    FW 3.0.0.4.246 is officially out

As I mentioned in another (wrong) thread, two annoying bugs remain In the release notes it says that the WLAN menu should now appear in bridge mode. It doesn't! So no idea how they messed that up. There is no way to switch-off the 2.4Ghz radio on the rt-ac66u running in bridge mode. If the...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

I think Asus have messed up the 246 update! It says "4. Wireless is configurable in media bridge mode " But it isn't!! The wireless menu is still missing even after a factory reset. You cannot disable the 2.4Ghz radio in media bridge mode. The other bug where the bridge mode router...

    Bug found with bridge mode

It is actually quite weird with the forced 2.4Ghz mode. You cannot choose the wireless channel, or any other aspects of its configuration. The only adjustments are the SSID and the password. I agree that the current device should be able to do pretty much everything in the final standard. I...

    Bug found with bridge mode

I can turn the 2.4Ghz off on the Router. But when you set up the second AC66U as a bridge, it forces you to create yet another 2.4Ghz network from the bridge unit, and it cannot be switched off because almost all of the menus are missing when in bridge mode. For the 5Ghz radio, if I set it to...

    Bug found with bridge mode

I was scratching my head for a good part of an hour trying to work out why my second RT-AC66U refused to successfully work in bridge mode with my first one (in router mode). I finally found out why. I am in the UK, so I assume the firmware conforms to the appropriate channel approval...
