    Band steering in Asus Merlin

That's what we are here for. I would say that it is a good thing the smart connect settings page exist because it gives you the opportunity to correct any nuances and undesired behaviors. At the end of the day though, you may find there are a few stubborn devices that will not want to switch...

Release ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24374 (2024/09/27)

...method too, but nothing works, after adding it back to my mesh network, it happens again. is there known issues about this router and mesh networks? Thanks in advanced, EDIT: It seems I have fixed it disabling the Enable Smart Connect option. Now the devices are "free" to connect to any band.

Your welcome. My tests were simple and generally confined to 'what's this all about'... ultimately, clients decide how to connect and modern not-cheap ones are good enough at it. OE

Inter SSID Traffic not Routing on a RT-AX86U Pro

Do you know if it was a fix in that version of code? That's great if so. I'm on that version now, so I'll keep the config as-is and see if it works longer term. If not, I'll adopt the guest wifi for the IOT stuff. (I edited my above post as that was presumptuous of me to assume. )

    DOT & IoT Devices

I use cloudflares DoT using strict. I also don’t permit my ISP’s dns. I normally just block 8.8.8.8 since it’s hardcoded into so many devices. And set global redirection to router in dns director. I don’t seem to have issues with my 2024 LG smart tv or Amazon devices such as firesticks or...

Can't See Individual Bands on AX6600

...like an older HP printer and a wireless bird feeder camera. I started to dig into the issue and noticed that the router was set to smart connect and was in 5 GHz-2 backhaul only mode. I don't recall setting it up in backhaul mode when I first installed the equipment a couple of years ago, so...

    [ 3006.102 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

They both expose a unique SSID, with the router handling band steering. Main difference is MLO can use multiple bands at the same time.

XT9 wifi agile multiband in Ai Mesh?

Doing a bit of research I feel that enabling wifi agile multiband will not improve the connection or the roaming. The robot vac uses its internal guidance and only communicates with the phones as needed.

Must have gotten a lemon of a RT-BE96U

MLO is a Wifi 7 features, something your cameras are unlikely to support. What you are looking for here is Smart Connect.

    Band steering in Asus Merlin

Now for the real talk, the problem with the method smart connect uses is that it does not truly account for the devices preference- the device may still decide to try to connect to one band over the other. The smart connect page exist for users who want to try to calibrate this behaviorism- Asus...

    Smart Band Steering

But doing that causes devices on the 2.4 GHz to often be unable to connect to devices on the 5 GHz band (e.g., my Canon printer). The Smart Connect feature seems to have solved that problem and apart from the one incident I reported in my OP, everything seems to be working fine. For instance, I...

Moen U Shower will not connect to AX86U Pro but was fine with AC86U

Thanks. I will try these suggestions. For a device that is 2.4Ghz only, how would Smart Connect affect the connection? I presume the client would only "see" the 2.4Ghz band? Perfect use case! I will immediately buy one. I just hope it supports 5Ghz MIMO because I'm sure it needs...

    Release ASUS TUF-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_33419 (2024/10/15)

Missing for MediaTek-based routers, I don't see the Smart Connect Rules page also on RT-AX59U. Looks like MediaTek solely uses the Wi-Fi Agile Multiband standard for roaming (since this setting is enabled by default for MediaTek chips), which is actually not a bad thing, since it is not a...

12V ASUS router with the longest 2.4GHz WiFi range

Two floors, and I have to have the router in my room on the first floor (Not ground floor which is where the smart bulb is). House has cement walls. AX4200Q can connect to that specific smart bulb. But the problem is it drops from time to time. I want to know if the AX86U PRO would be able to...

12V ASUS router with the longest 2.4GHz WiFi range

Hi, Do you guys know a wifi router that has better 2.4GHz wifi range than the AX4200Q (with Smart Connect enabled)? I'm asking because with some of my 'smart' devices a mesh netework doesn't really work well, and the smart devices only support 2.4GHz band...

Moen U Shower will not connect to AX86U Pro but was fine with AC86U

Are you using the same WiFI channel(s) as the AC86U? Is Smart Connect enabled? Have you tried using Guest Network and putting the device on the Guest Network WiFi? Some WiFi clients are just very picky about the WiFi settings including channel used. I found I had to turn off Smart Connect and...
