    i think i am half way there, seems the dsl 3782 doesnt always save the settings first time, now i have the DHCP disabled and wifi disabled on it and now the asus N66U has a wan IP and my devices are connected to it... Now, can i setup my openvpn on the N66u and connect to the network remotley...

    sounds interesting, there is a bridge mode but it doesnt work properly when i tried, i have since come accross this... does it sound as though it might work for me, my only concern is that i have set a static ip fpr my server but it does show up its name in network map when connected

    Alas, in repeater mode there is no setting for DDNS...cant beleive that an isp company do not give the option to put thier routers in to modem mode, allowing me to use my own router.

    I am on talktalk uk, they supply me with a dlink dsl 3782, basically this cannot be put into modem mode and a work around allowing passthrough does not work and is flaky at best, i want access to my server in another room that is wired to another router in repeater mode (asus RT-N66U)...

    My bad, the talktalk router is a Dlink dsl 3782, nonetheless, it allows to put in bridge mode and i followed instructions to do so, i disabled the DHCP server and then plugged in the N66U in router mode, seems to work for a bit then get connectivity issues, after i change the dsl 3782 to bridged...

    I believe so, when I had virgin media there was an option at the login page, modem mode or router mode, it was as simple as that, this one, talk talk is not as simple as selecting a button

    I think that's what I do given that I VPN into router remotely to initiate WOL, its just that I need it to run itself when the router is switched on in the morning, I can go several days without switching the server on.
