Asus wireless bridge and talktalk router openvpn connecting

ok, so my isp is TalkTalk and the router is a Dlink dsl 3782, the wifi does not reach everywhere, the solution I had worked well, I had n rt-n16 in repeater mode and it worked well connected wirelessly to the dsl 3782, I now have moved my server to this site, which I formerly used to connect to remotely via an rt-n66u, both the asus routers run asus merlin, however in repeater mode OpenVPN is not available..i need to somehow need to connect the dsl 3782 router to the ethernet on n66u running in router mode so i have access to OpenVPN and then have the n16 in the room where wifi does not reach in repeater mode, this way I can use OpenVPN client to connect to the n66u where is will be able to the n16 also connected to the network which also has the server connected to it and then turn it on with WOL...

can I do this ?... the problem I am having us connecting the n16 is repeater mode to the n66u

See my signature for a solution
Would be a big departure from your existing but has many benefits

the links in your sig are not clickable, not sure if that is because I'm on a tablet at the moment

There are no links
My signature describes a solution for TalkTalk ISP with a Merlin router and multiple Asus AP’s all of which allow Ethernet devices connected. Has the option of Ethernet or Wi-fi backbone.

I'm sorry, if I seem dim, I dont understand, what do I need to read, nothing in your sig mentions any of the models of hardware I am using

I believe so, when I had virgin media there was an option at the login page, modem mode or router mode, it was as simple as that, this one, talk talk is not as simple as selecting a button

Does your isp allow you to place the modem in a bridge mode or pass thru mode? If so, then use you own dhcp server/router with your repeaters.

My bad, the talktalk router is a Dlink dsl 3782, nonetheless, it allows to put in bridge mode and i followed instructions to do so, i disabled the DHCP server and then plugged in the N66U in router mode, seems to work for a bit then get connectivity issues, after i change the dsl 3782 to bridged mode i cant access it anymore, i know i set the IP to be 192.168.11.1, even with a wired connection i cant access the dsl 3782 in bridged mode once settings are saved, also i am still able to connect to the dsl 3782 over wifi...confusing.

EDIT: reset the dsl 3782 again, straight away it shows up the router in network infrastructure.

All i want is to have the N66u router dealing with everything.

im follwoing this... https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Broadband/DLINK-DSL-3782-bridge-modem-mode/m-p/2228396#M715514

i am in the uk and my isp is talktalk fibre who provided me with a dlink dsl 3782 router, apparently there is no modem mode for it and i tried a work around of setting it to bridged mode and disabling dhcp on the dsl3782, this doesnt work as i keep getting drop outs and have to unplug and replugnthe lan port to get back online.

i gave up with it and reset the dsl 3782 back to defaults, i left the ethernet cable from the dsl3782 plugged into the wan port of n66u, this somehow allows me to connect to either the wifi of dsl3782 or the n66u, the ip address of dsl3782 is 192.168.1.1, the IP address of the n66u i set to 192.168.11.1, how ever it is receiving a wan ip address from dsl3782 of 192.168.1.xxx but it is complaining that the ip address is invalid, nevertheless, i can still connect to its wifi and get online...from here i need to use another router (rt-n16) in repeater mode to connect to the n66u, the reason for this is that i have a server that will connect to the n16 and i want to be able to connect to the network remotley via openvpn on the n66u, then use wol to switch on the server, i can then safely use my server remotley over a vpn. when i try to connect the n16 to the n66u it keeps ssying that the parent maybe switched off, not sure how to proceed or how to do it another way, neither routers support Aimesh so i cant go down that road, dont really want to spend 100+ on another router...any suggestions ?
