Need advice on which router to get

If you plan the router to handle VPN, I suggest you get a router with a decent SoC, it is one of the few tasks that require real "horsepower". About the ac68u vs ac87u, i suggest the first. I tested both, and the latter, using 3x3 clients, is in fact a bit slower than its predecesor. In 4x4...

[Question] How to Test Router's Wireless Speed?

To report that your laptot network adapter is slow? Because that seems like the only reason for your poor performance. Do you have separated ssid for 2.4 and 5ghz network? Is advisable if you want to be sure what frequency you are using. 5ghz tends to perform better on short distances with few...

Weird problems with rt-ac68r (with Merlin or stock FW)

May some weird but... In your place i would try a third party firmware like DD-WRT. You will lose hardware acceleration, but is not a great concern for most users.

AC68U as Media Bridge for ATV3

Maybe a dumb question but have you tried using the second router in repeater mode? The lack of hardware acceleration on a router with a SoC this powerful should not be noticeable at all, and well, it might solve the problem the easiest way.

RT-AC66 with Jumbo frames on increase Tranfer rates through media bridge ?? HUH ??

A bit of necromancy to say the same works for me. (my setup is nas--main router(AC68U):::repeater router(AC66U)--switch--pc where -- means cable and ::: wireless link) Quite odd. Actually with "jumbo trace" enabled in RT-AC68U got speeds about 10-20mb faster that without it. My MTU is still...

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

I did not test it in newer versions of the FW, i hoped it was fixed by now. However, i did not noticed massive drops in speed between media bridge and repeater mode, despite the lack of HW acceleration. About 360mbps (repeater) vs 410mbps (media bridge) measured with iperf, on a fairly high...

    PCE-AC68 paired with RT-AC68U

I personally noticed that, despite having a insane ping to router increase with DD-WRT (from average 1ms with stock or merlin fw to about 10-15ms with DD-WRT), performace out-of-the-network seems quite unaffected. I don't think is related to the latest changes in the switch behaviour, i...

    RT-AC66U- blocking outgoing emails.

Do not understimate the "reset to defaults" part on that instructions, seems unnecesary, but usually fixes problems like yours in most cases. Specially if you upgraded from an old firmware version, with old drivers, without resseting (sometimes just works, but is VERY advisable to do it anyways)

Purchased Wrong Router & Uverse Help

If i remember right, N performance (what you are actually using) was SIGHTLY better on RT-N66U. But not expect game-changing performance, only maybe 5% improvement, you will have insuficient performance if you actually dont have what you want. As thiggins said, 5ghz range is always worse than...

    Most Stable FW

For what i can say, using media brigde mode, the only rock solid 24/7 stable firmware prior to current release was 270.26b from Merlin The actual release, 374_726 seems stable to me, aswell as the merlin builds based on 720 code. In my setup, did not have any drops on 5Ghz. I only noticed...

    AC56U issues

I see lots of issues there, far more than normal, maybe I wont be able to help in all of them, anyways, lets try: First of all, specially if you upgraded from old firmwares (but do it anyways), clear nvram, you can do it with the "restore defaults" option in firmware. I'm seeing some weird...

    [RT-AC66U 3.0.0.4.374.726] problem with ISP

Don't think it will be your problem, but just in case, check if "DHCP query frequency" option, under WAN, is set to "normal mode". Some ISP's don't like the "aggresive mode" setting

    Degrading 2.4GHz performance on RT-AC56U

Just wondering, 2.4Ghz band is absolutely saturated in most urban areas, Is it possible that the router had chosen a different channel (assuming it is configured in Auto) even more crowded than last time and that's the reason of your performance degradation? I personally never had very good...

    Rt-ac68u

It can't be much more expensive given the actual price of RT-AC66U, in fact the only major changes are the processor, usb3.0 ports, and TurboQAM in the 2.4ghz side, a huge increment in prince with similar AC performance will lead to a not very competitive product. I'm still wondering if I...

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

Ugh, sorry, i understood MB=motherboard, my bad :P It may be the number of clients as you said. My client router actually have 8 clients, can be a few more when all the phone, tablet, notebooks, console etc. are connecting to it, definitely no more than 15 clients in any time. I am no...

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

Just want to inform you that i had still not a single crash/stop-routing with 726 firmware on repeater mode. I tested merlin beta for a while and everything went fine, but I can't state for sure It was stable because I had it installed for no more than 1-2 days. Have you tried a hard reset...

RT-AC66U Poor Wifi range. 5GHz is 15 dBm lower

As PrivateJoker said, this is normal, 5ghz band is much more penalized by obstacles than 2.4 band is. But usually, is much less crowded aswell. But this is a common mistake, with 5ghz you do NOT get better performance (unless you switch to 5ghz AND use AC clients that can't get that speeds on...

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

All working, seems that my router needed an old good "clear nvram" after all the firmware dance. Thanks for letting me now it was working ;) @Junky321 According to Github readme on merlin's firmware, latest beta is still based on 1XX build of RT-AC56U

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

That's quite strange virtueme, I can't connect to that network, just tested with an iPhone 5 that correctly connects to the original network right now. BTW, Are you using the same SSID? I tested with my notebook on beta release aswell, but was not working either. I will do some quick tests...

    RT-AC66U Media Bridge Stability

Repeater mode is fully stable in my case. Only drawbacks I've seen are the lack of hardware acceleration and that you can't connect to the "repeated" 5ghz network. Note that this was not possible before either (the 5ghz band was only used for the link between the two routers) Stability seems...
