Brand new RT-AC87U, 5Ghz radio always disabled

I returned the router this morning so can no longer test. As a matter of fact, I had the ampersand '&' character in my WPA2 keys. In any case, I doubt I would keep the router even if it was just a limitation of alphanumeric characters in WPA2 keys in the firmware. This router has been out...

Brand new RT-AC87U, 5Ghz radio always disabled

Well I spoke too soon. After going through the Setup screens, eventually got to LAN -> enable jumbo frames, that reboots the router and now I can't get the 5ghz radio to come back. This gentleman has the same problem and he says it turned out to be a hardware issue. He didn't get a...

Brand new RT-AC87U, 5Ghz radio always disabled

It is permanently down for 5ghz. Even a factory reset doesn't bring it back. BUT flashing the official Asus firmware 2769 brings back both radios. Could it be something in the latest Asus beta and Merlin firmware that causes this issue?

Brand new RT-AC87U, 5Ghz radio always disabled

I just bought a RT-AC87U from newegg and I was wondering if I got a defective unit or is this something due to a bug in the firmware? Basically, the 5ghz radio is disabled when the router boots. I tried both the Asus 12/1 beta firmware (RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_3123-ga595953.trx) and Merlin's...

QOS: are priorities per IP or cumulative?

I was afraid of that, so what I am thinking of is associating the "Lowest" devices to the SSID of a second AP and connecting that AP to the main router via LAN cable. Hence, my new question how to limit the throughput on one of the LAN ports of the main router. Since this is a new topic, I...

QOS: are priorities per IP or cumulative?

I have several devices I classified as "Lowest priority" in the "user-defined QOS rules". Next, on the "user-defined priorities" I set a limit of 10% maximum for upload and download for the "Lowest" priority devices. The question is, is the 10% per IP or cumulative? If per IP, it would...

    QOS slows down transfers?

More than two years ago, RMerlin wrote on the ASUS forums that "When you enable QoS, the firmware disables a special kernel driver that speeds up transfers (ctf.ko), as they are mutually incompatible." Link...

    Throttle by LAN port

My Asus wireless router has 4 LAN ports. I would like to put a throttle/cap on one of them to 'x' Mbits/sec download and 'y' Mbits/sec upload. Is this possible?

Samba in Merlin missing "Maximum number of concurrent connections"

To: AndreyPopov Awesome. Thank you. I confirmed that changes to this "FTP Share" setting works for Samba too. Changes to it get saved to /tmp/etc/smb.conf

Samba in Merlin missing "Maximum number of concurrent connections"

On an older version of the Merlin firmware, there was a tab called "Miscellaneous Settings" for Samba. This tab has a setting for "Maximum number of concurrent connections". This screenshot from 3.0.0.4.374.32 on RT-N16. For the most part, these settings have moved to the "Network...

Connect "WAN" to other wireless network

You need to make your N66U a "Wireless Client". Then you will get your own subnet (for example you can set it to 192.168.1.x while your landlord uses 192.168.0.x), your own IP's (DHCP), you are firewalled from him, etc. Don't use "Wireless Bridge" or Wireless Repeater because it will make you...

how to fsck a FAT32 usb drive on Merlin firmware?

Thanks for the reply! This is for RT-N16: admin@RT-N16:/tmp/home/root# ls -1 /usr/sbin | grep -i fsck app_fsck.sh app_fsck_all.sh e2fsck fsck.ext2 fsck.ext3 So there is no /usr/sbin/fsck_msdos. Can you upload this program and make it available on your mediafire website? Thank you very much.

how to fsck a FAT32 usb drive on Merlin firmware?

I know I can fsck (filesystem check) a USB drive formatted with Linux partition with the e2fsck command, but what if the drive is FAT32? On Linux, there is a dosfsck program that comes with dosfstools package. But there is no dosfsck binary in the Merlin firmware and dosfstools isn't...

Strongswan package from Entware on Asuswrt-Merlin?

To: ryzhov_al Is it possible for you for compile an older version of Strongswan for me? The one in the Entware repo is version 5.0.4-1. This version compared with version 4 is a major update, and has more complex requirements in terms of kernel modules than the older version. The last...

Why does /jffs/scripts/firewall-start script run twice?

Thanks for checking Merlin. First, I can say it is not some other copy of the firewall-start script because the syslog line says: Dec 31 18:00:16 admin: /jffs/scripts/firewall-start Dec 31 18:00:16 admin: /jffs/scripts/firewall-start This line is generated via a "logger $0" rather than an...

Why does /jffs/scripts/firewall-start script run twice?

It is an RT-N16 so no dual wan. I see in the c code that there are two places that call the script? https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/blob/master/release/src/router/rc/firewall.c === FIRST (line 4481) #if defined(RTCONFIG_APP_PREINSTALLED) || defined(RTCONFIG_APP_NETINSTALLED)...

Why does /jffs/scripts/firewall-start script run twice?

I put iptables commands in the /jffs/scripts/firewall-start script. Why does this script run twice at boot? This is the script sequence after I reboot the router: Oct 2 11:47:40 RT-N16 admin: /jffs/scripts/services-stop Dec 31 18:00:07 0: /jffs/scripts/init-start Dec 31 18:00:12 admin...

Strongswan package from Entware on Asuswrt-Merlin?

I added "PF_EXT_SLIB+=policy" and "PF6_EXT_SLIB+=policy" to the Makefile but this didn't fix the problem. I guess it is more complicated than that. $ diff -u router/iptables/extensions/Makefile router/iptables/extensions/Makefile.orig --- router/iptables/extensions/Makefile 2013-09-27...

Strongswan package from Entware on Asuswrt-Merlin?

To: krabs I am a noob, so can you guide me through the process? I definitely do not know how to "include also the nessary header files in include". Is adding 'policy' just adding a line: PF_EXT_SLIB+=policy for example just below line 20 of the Makefile? Or is there more to it? Thank you so...

Strongswan package from Entware on Asuswrt-Merlin?

There are no other lines with 'policy' in config_base. I also confirmed that I can load "xt_policy" module. But the iptables command still does not work: What other things can I try? Thanks so much.
