Firmware choice? on ac3200 and ac68u/ac87u and my internett pages is slow sometimes?

Being it has a cable from the AC3200 to the ac87u, why are you not using it as a access point rather than a repeater ? Repeaters kill traffic and should only be used if there is no way to run a wire between them. Or am I reading this wrong ?
