Good AP with AC for 120$?

I would not recommend the range extender instead of an access point since in my testing the thoroughput was cut in half. A wired access point will give you the most reliable solution for your needs.

    VOIP Newbie Question

I appreciate the idea and I'm going to look into it further. We have actually moved into the house and I'm always looking for new projects to tackle.

    VOIP Newbie Question

Do you have any information on what I would need to make this happen? Could you link me to where I could do this using pfsense?

DIY home surveillance with IP camera?

Hikvision also has their own DVR software available for download that can be run on a PC or server and is less CPU-intensive than Blue Iris. I have only run Blue Iris on my i7 which also acts as my Plex server so I cannot comment on how the software runs on a lower powered machine. Blue Iris has...

DIY home surveillance with IP camera?

I use and recommend Hikvision DS-2CD2032. I have four of their cameras, all purchased on Amazon. I am using them with BlueIris software and the combination seems to work very well. They utilize Power over Ethernet (POE) and I am using them with this injector which supports up to 8 cameras...

    RC-AC68U - Media Bridge mode - Bonjour/ZeroConf/Multicast filtering?

I agree. It's a shame because I love the Asus routers in every other respect for my needs at home. I am moving soon and will try to run new Cat5E/Cat6 in the new house but I may give Tomato a try in the meantime. How is Tomato working out for you?

    ASUS AC3200 Client list

I don't mean to threadjack, but i second the recommendation for Fing. My only problem is that Fing doesnt always remember my clients when I specify the names, it always goes back to the default IP address for each client or lists the manufacturer name. I find myself having to rename all the...

    RC-AC68U - Media Bridge mode - Bonjour/ZeroConf/Multicast filtering?

Nope, no success on my end. I wonder if someone with a newer model can try to replicate our problems to see if upgrading my router would fix the issue

    Ooma vs. MagicJack

Have you considered a company called Obihai. They work with Google Voice and I use the OBI200 unit with good results. http://www.obihai.com/

    VOIP Newbie Question

I've been following the on again, off again relationship between Obihai and Google Voice. Are there any other free/low cost VOIP providers you could recommend? This is the Panasonic unit I have linked above. I like your idea about locating the source where the lines comes into the home and...

    VOIP Newbie Question

My primary goal would be for an intercom/paging features but having an Obihai device attached to a Google Voice account could make a good backup if my kids want to call family. I have an S5 which uses the fingerprint lock so they can't get into it if there was an emergency. As far as the...

    VOIP Newbie Question

I am fairly technical-oriented but I am not familiar with current VOIP offerings or even if this is the best approach to addressing my needs. We do not have a land line in our residence and use cell phones for the majority of our communications. I love doing research and am comfortable with...

Access USB drive that's connected to RT-AC68U in AP mode

See if this method works for you: 1. Plug the external Hard Drive into the router and turn it on 2. Format the drive if prompted 3. You should be able to see the drive if you go into either Finder > Shared > [Router Name] or Finder > [your name]'s Mac > Devices >...

    Testing New Hard Drives

Ok thanks for the advice. This is the first non SSD drive I've bought in awhile and I wanted to make sure that it was okay. It will replace an older 1.5tb Western Digital green drive that is still running after nine years in my computer. I will be getting a second WD Red when funds permit for...

Floor plan and network wiring diagram software?

I don't usually bump old threads, but did you ever find a software tool that fits your specifications? I didn't want to start a new thread since it has already been asked. I am looking for something similar to draw a network diagram based on my home's dimensions. I did find an online tool...

    Testing New Hard Drives

I am not familiar with the lingo, is there a specific process/procedure you follow to "soak" a new hard drive before putting it into operation?

    Testing New Hard Drives

Are the QNAP tests available to people that don't own the hardware? I would love to try them on my hard drive if they are available somewhere on the Internet. I didn't indicate that the test was completed after 15 hours, in fact it is still running at the moment and I am not sure when it will be...

    Testing New Hard Drives

Hello, When you guys purchase new hard drives for your NAS or servers what are you using to test the hard drives for errors? Do you use tools built into Windows, Linux or Mac? Recently, I purchased a 6TB WD Red drive to put into my home built server and was doing some research on what the best...
