Existing Asus RT-AC86U owner - considering the RT-AX82U

Hi everyone, Really enjoyed good solid performance of my RT-AC86U router and has served us well over the last few years. Lately though, been waking up in the morning with no WiFi signal at all, needing to do a hard reboot. I have it set up already to reboot itself every day at 1am. Firmware is...

No 5Ghz on my new AC86U?!

Woohoo!! You put me on the right track my friend!!! Thank you!! Both SSID's were always the same - WILNET - the channels were always identified separately on my older, AC87U and worked just fine. So I just tried renaming it as you suggested now for trouble shooting and as soon as she booted up...

No 5Ghz on my new AC86U?!

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding - been out of town on business this week! I hooked up my older AC87U as an AP and I get my 5Ghz channel again, but only broadcasting from my AP. I have posted my screenshot below - hopefully this is what you wanted to see?

No 5Ghz on my new AC86U?!

Box was shrinkwrapped, as I was setting up for the first time, it was all in English, something that doesn't happen if it's a 'Chinese one' according to other forums I have read. I was prompted to update to latest FW from ASUS which I did & and then completed setup. Can see my 5Ghz channel on...

No 5Ghz on my new AC86U?!

Got a new AC86U (via legitimate UK retail and not Gearbest...etc). Set up on stock FW. Genuinely impressed with it so far - knocks to stuffing out of my old AC87U which it is replacing in terms of speed. I get near line speed from my ISP (Virgin Media 250Mb Vivid unlimited) on the 2.4Ghz band...

New AC86U - how to open ports?!

Got my new AC86U today, it's replacing my old AC87U. Off the bat - it's fantasic - I can't believe the huge jump in perfomance even on the latest stock FW. Like night and day. I used to get speeds of about 20Mbps at the end of my garden, I now get close to line speed of my ISP.....like 204Mps -...

stuck on FW version 384.5 on AC87U

I have been trying to update my AC87U router to the latest version. I go through the same process as always but this this time, after the progress bar completes saying that the update has been successful, the version in the GUI stays unchanged at v384.5. I have downloaded & am applying v384.7...

Port 88 will not stay open

Hi everyone, I have 2 IP cameras on ports 80 and 88 respectively. Been working fine until the one on port 88 stopped for some reason. When I try a port checker (while troubleshooting on the webased recording service I subscribe to) it tells me that port (88) is closed. Yet, according to my...

Is 'ASUS AiRadar and Range Boost' a real thing or just Marketing BS?

Hi everyone, I am thinking of retiring my RT-AC87U and replacing it with an RT-AC86U and one or two Lyra nodes (not sure if the AC1300 minis will be adequate or not). I have recently been able to work from home and have realised that I can get my company to fund fully or at least partially, my...

    RT-AC86U vs RT-AC87U

I think you are right - based on Merlin's views on the 86U and some of the in depth reviews I have read - I think I will be having a deeper look at this, as soon as I can figure out how to get my company to fund it as I want to add some Lyra nodes to it as well and really future proof my upgrade...

    RT-AC86U vs RT-AC87U

Ok - perhaps in the US but here in the UK, the 87U is still more expensive - not by a large ammount - about £20 or so.

    RT-AC86U vs RT-AC87U

Sorry - I started on the old Captain Morgan a little early! I meant to say that the I've noticed that the cost of the AC86U is lower than the AC87U, so was just wondering why that was the case, if the AC86U is a better router
