Hi everyone,
I am thinking of retiring my RT-AC87U and replacing it with an RT-AC86U and one or two Lyra nodes (not sure if the AC1300 minis will be adequate or not). I have recently been able to work from home and have realised that I can get my company to fund fully or at least partially, my equipment and or monthly service provider costs etc.
I have really enjoyed my 87U - it's been a real work horse but where I need to work from in my house (in the loft of an old, very WiFi unfriendly brick Victorian house) my Skype conference calls plus my VOIP office phone doesn't work too well. I posted recently in another thread where I was thinking of getting a WiFi amplifier but it's been helpfully pointed out to me that these things are actually not legal. Don't think I would ever get caught but wouldn't want to be that guy that causes interferance in my neighbourhood and cause other users to suffer....etc.
So - Merlin himself rates the 86U as a worthy router, but was just curious if anyone knows if 'ASUS AiRadar and Range Boost' offers any real benefits and has been tested / if indeed, it's a real thing or just marketing BS?
So I am hoping that just the 86U upgrade from my current 87U without the Lrya addition would be enough but am thinking i will need at least one Lyra node - not sure if the mini (AC1300) would suffice. I guess the rule of thumb is to always go a little overkill if you can afford it, in the hopes of 'future proofing' if possible?
Thanks for any comments or advice.
