Help with building my MoCA network

@redski, what did you go with? How did it work out?

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

Just beware when purchasing if VLANs are in use. A few models (Translite) have been found to strip VLAN tags.

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

Because that’s what’s necessary for them all to be on the same LAN and communicate with each other and the primary router, to function as a single network. Seems more an issue with the routers and network configuration than MoCA. Does the configuration work if using a single unmanaged Ethernet...

Spectrum EU2251 Modem and voice effected by MoCA?

FWIW… The simpler alternative workaround that maintains the full max throughput for MoCA 2.5 is to just install a (70+ dB) MoCA filter on the DOCSIS 3.1 modem, as a prophylactic, to protect the MoCA-sensitive D3.1 modem from the MoCA signals. Related: DOCSIS encroachment on the MoCA [Band D]...

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

Lacking any citation I was hoping we could just skip that, forget it was ever uttered, because I have no clue what it’s supposed to mean. The linked comments offer explanations and a walk-through on the reflective benefit of a “PoE” MoCA filter; but, as stated, it’s not as critical in simpler...

New MoCA 2.5 setup. Long run, many outlets & TV's etc.

None that offer cable/MoCA signal splitting. The Holland DPD2 is the go-to for antenna/satellite diplexers, useful for OTA+MoCA setups.

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

Looks fine, opting for the “input-fed” topology rather than “all outputs,” and hopefully implemented using a 2-way splitter, as pictured. Caveats: The MoCA filter between the point-of-entry and modem isn’t strictly needed, but may still be of benefit near-term until if/when the cable...

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

Apologies. When I said … … that’s “Config 1’s, plural, seem (not seems) simpler” … intended to communicate that in each pair of diagrams presented, the “Config 1*” versions were simpler relative to their Config 2* variants. Have you reviewed the competing topologies in the linked “splitter...

up to you. See the topology options linked earlier. Config 1’s seem simpler; though the main mesh node could connect direct to the router if that were preferable.

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

As for how to link the adapters and mesh nodes via Ethernet, Config 1 seems OK, provided all the mesh nodes are configured as APs only. Config 2 would be OK were you to remove the redundant link between the switch and main mesh node (and configure all the mesh nodes as APs). That said, I don’t...

Help with Moca backhaul - newbie

First thought is that you seem to only require the cable signal for the cable modem, and you have sufficient coax paths for the ISP/modem feed to be physically isolated from the MoCA-infused coax; so I’d suggest reconsidering the current coax topology, possibly eliminating the amp (powered...

New MoCA 2.5 setup. Long run, many outlets & TV's etc.

The description of the setup lacks the details needed to make any specific recommendation (or suggest optimization alternatives), but if the secondary amp is actually required as described, you’d want it to be an amp designed to support MoCA to facilitate MoCA connectivity between output ports —...

Solved Frontier MoCA only getting 500Mb after upgrading to 1G.

Ah, ok. Yeah, just takes some thinking about it. The standard MEB1100 install (what’s pictured) couldn’t be doing both, of course, since there’s only a single Ethernet connection … to the router Ethernet WAN port. It isn’t helpful that the NVG468MQ/MEB1100 Install Guide doesn’t explain *why*...

Solved Frontier MoCA only getting 500Mb after upgrading to 1G.

Yeah, the FCA252[25GW] MoCA WAN setup is a great workaround if all you have is coax. One related thread: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/frontier-internet-and-moca.88947/#post-893214

Thinking of deploying a MoCa 2.5 network, what else needs to be done?

There isn’t any official certification for MoCA splitters; there’s barely any certification for MoCA adapters. Splitters optimized for satellite are sub-optimal for MoCA owing to the conflicting needs relative to output port isolation for the shared frequency range — with MoCA’s 1125-1675 MHz...

Thinking of deploying a MoCa 2.5 network, what else needs to be done?

Solid plan. Wholly isolated coax with connecting components upgraded to MoCA-optimized versions should get the job done. Seems like you could just use another 3 GHz F-81 barrel connector in Room 2 (like at the outside junction) to streamline the connections.

Best coax amplifier and splitters for MoCA 2.5 Ethernet?

Reply to cross-posted Reddit thread, here. copy/paste: Ditto prior reply: absent any cable or OTA signal to distribute to multiple outlets, you don’t need an amplifier. You could replace the amp with a right-sized MoCA-optimized splitter; whether you’d use a splitter and the splitter size...

Upgraded from GoCoax WF-803M to MA2500D - Not seeing faster speeds

Oh, p.s., I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but, once you restructured your setup, the “PoE” MoCA filter in the last(?) diagram shouldn’t be needed, at least not for keeping your MoCA signals isolated/secured. And at some point the “PoE” MoCA filter may become an issue if/when your service...

Upgraded from GoCoax WF-803M to MA2500D - Not seeing faster speeds

Ah, ok. I was going off this section of the last(?) diagram… Oh, nice. I was stuck thinking it was a “Gigabit” plan.

Are you still on Comcast? Symmetrical 2 Gbps or even 2 Gbps download seem outside what Comcast can deliver.
