Having random, but mostly small issues with internet connection. - Cox

I haven't used Cox service in a few years. But back when I did every 2 to 4 weeks I would need to power cycle my modem because it would just lose passion. And this is with multiple different modems and having a technician check out the cableing. I eventually just wrote it off as a fault in...

Inexpensive AP to provide NON-DFS to FireSticks

It seems like the gateway Wi-Fi and the storm ready Wi-Fi are redundant. Maybe you could disable one of them and have the tenant use the other Also, these are just fire sticks. Maybe you could configure them to use 2.4 GHz and they would be fine and you wouldn't notice any problems Also, if...

Real life utility of SoC speed and RAM size in routers

i'm not smart enough to follow the recent discussion, but for the original question, the only thing that really put a "load' on my routers was something that juggled lots and lots of tiny connections. Think bittorrent. and also to lesser extent video game downloads like from Steam. Doing...

So, what's up with the main site redesign?

Well thank you for having the site up when I needed to figure out my home wifi. I am now blessed and cursed with being the local wifi expert.

So, what's up with the main site redesign?

ooh, the "try to make some money off it" may exactly explain the generic SEO style redesign.

So, what's up with the main site redesign?

So, I hadn't been by the SNB site in a while and noticed the big change in design.... when did it change? I have one general and one specific feedback. In general, the new design, while more modern, looks incredibly generic. Unfortunately it reminds me of linkbait clickfarming sites instead...

    Signs of aging WiFi hardware

when you say wifi is 10mbps slower... what are the raw speeds you're getting wired and wireless? dropping from 500mbps to 490mbps would be believable. dropping from 12mbps to 2mbps would be worse.

    R7800 SmallNetBuilder Review

I use it sometimes. It works. The setup with the OpenVPN client is a little janky. Performance isn't huge, only like 5mbps when I do a speed test. But it works for my minimal use

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.96SF

upgraded diry from 95.2. thanks voxel! huh, never thought about traffic meter, but I don't use it, so it's disabled now... what is DST?

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.95SF

Yep. I have an asus ax-82u with faster wifi and supports some LACP.... but I can't have the tricked out DNS configuration that I can do with voxel's version, so I keep the r7800 as my main Anyway, I upgraded from 1.0.2.94.4. I did get the warning about .95 being older. seems fine so far...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.94SF

So I updated from .92 to .94.1 I had a customized script /etc/init.d/dnsmasq, so this version replaced it with a standard version. Which broke my DHCP. But I restored my customization and all seems well!

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.92.3SF

Silly question, but do you call these a "snapshot" build because you think it might be missing some testing, or just because it hasn't been blessed by Voxel personally?

    R7800 VPN Service

I was also having problems. Disabling, then re-enabling, then downloading a new config, seems to have helped. I also turned both tun and tap to TCP, and set the service to "all sites on the internet and home network", which i don't think worked before, but they did after re-enable and re-download

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.92SF

i upgraded to this when I switched back to using my r7800 as the main router for our home network. (and replaced the netgear dhcp server with entware dnsmasq which I was talking about in this other thread) R7800-Voxel replacing stock DHCP or DNS or both? | SmallNetBuilder Forums (snbforums.com)...

R7800-Voxel replacing stock DHCP or DNS or both?

to follow up and correct my owninstructions slightly. 5) modify the script /etc/init.d/dnsmasq 6) comment out this line /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --except-interface=lo -r $resolv_file $opt_argv 7) add in this line, assuming that /opt/sbin is where new entware dnsmasq gets installed, and opt/etc/ is...

Can we please stop calling it mesh?

So you know, what we really need, then, is a simple term for "multi AP system using ethernet backhaul" that's as succinct as "mesh".

Good job Voxel, you were ahead of your time there!

only two streams of 6ghz seems.... interesting.

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.90SF

thanks for the update voxel! I have one recommendation and one question: recommend having the release notes include which version of Netgear's open source download you are using as baseline. question, can you explain what's up with the dnsmasq note? what was the behavior before and what now...

RT-AX56U: Speed tests = perfect; actual performance = unusable

he wait is the problem only in 2.4ghz? how congested is your airspace? At my in-laws apartment, there are so many wifi units nearby that 2.4ghz is literally unusable even when adjacent to the router. It's not an Asus, it's just too crowded of an airspace.
