BE88U as AiMesh node - 5 GHz is open

I have now reported it to Asus support, they will forward it to Asus HQ

BE88U as AiMesh node - 5 GHz is open

Some rearranging later I can now say that it does seem to be a firmware combo issue. I moved the BE88U to the basement where I have Ethernet backhaul and there 5 GHz works as it should. I moved my old AX88U (also with detachable antennas) to the garage and it does not have any issues with 5 GHz...

BE88U as AiMesh node - 5 GHz is open

    1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) Well, the mod is only that I have unscrewed one antenna (the left one) and connected the cable from the external anrenna. Three nodes are inside, One in a small guesthouse, One in the garage and one in a small shed to cover the patio (and usually off this time of year). The...

BE88U as AiMesh node - 5 GHz is open

I have a BE98 as the main node with five AiMesh nodes, one with Ethernet backhaul, the others with RF backhaul. Four nodes are AX and the fifth (and newest) is a BE88U in the garage. The reason I chose it is that I can use an external antenna (the garage is covered in sheetmetal). It connects...

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

Both the non Pro and the Pro BE98 has new firmware as of Nov 5, Very similar version numbering but fixes different things. I plan to upgrade my non Pro tomorrow. BE98 non Pro: 3.0.0.6.102_36855 - https://rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-be98-model/helpdesk_bios/ BE98 Pro: 3.0.0.6.102_34508...

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

No, it turned out that a cheap UPS (CyberPower - avoid) was slowly breaking down and somehow loaded down the BE88U via the RJ-45 that ran through the protection port on the UPS to a backup NAS. The wired network speed to the UPS was down to 100 Mbps before the UPS went down completely. With the...

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

Could it be that the new FW for BE98, in effect, breaks 5 GHz on WiFi7 nodes in the AiMesh? All my other nodes runs fine on 5 GHz but they are all WiFi6 or WiFi6E.

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

Still no 5 GHz for my BE88U AImesh node (that the last upgrade to my BE98 broke).

New FW available for the BE88U - 3.0.0.6.102_33928.

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

I have two issues with my BE98: 1) SSIDs show up in hex in the admin interface for my AXE1600 node and my BE88U node 2) 5 GHz is disabled in the BE88U node Otherwise it is working fine, no speed issues at all. The AXE1600 works fine but it recently got an update (Sept 27) to 3.0.0.4.388_24374...

    Asus gt-be98 firmware downgrade

Weird things happen with my BE88U node when the BE98 is running the new firmware: BE96/98 updates

    BE96/98 updates

I removed the BE88U from the mesh and tried to add it again....many tries and resets later I finally got it added again. But still no 5 GHz on the BE88U when the main node is BE98 with the latest firmware.

    BE96/98 updates

After updating the BE98 (main node) I saw some strangeness in the reported SSID for my BE88U and AXE1600 mesh nodes. It is reported as a very long hex string. The BE88U (in another building) did not want to connect clients to 5 GHz but works fine on 2,4 GHz. The AXE1600 worked fine apart from...

    BE98 - reset needed - mesh consequences?

This went quite smoothly, reset button, connect to the router via a laptop, select "Advanced", upload the settings file and restart. And the AiMesh configuration was restored as before :)

    BE98 - reset needed - mesh consequences?

I would say a warm restart (just the button on the top of the start screen. But semantics aside, I have a saved config file from a week ago and the router has been working fine for a week until now. (And I did not do any changes a week ago, just saved a backup.) But does the config file restore...

    BE98 - reset needed - mesh consequences?

Being able to press the restart button in the GUI and subsequently doing just that.

    BE98 - reset needed - mesh consequences?

My mesh was behaving strangely so I did a controlled restart from the web GUI of the BE98 (main node). After the restart the mesh worked fine again but I can't get into the web GUI of the BE98 again. I guess that a factory reset is needed. I do have a fairly recent config file saved but will...

    ASUS Unveils RT-BE88U WiFi 7 Dual-Band Router

I saw GT-BE25000 listed at the ROG site. Looks identical to the RT-BE98 non-pro.

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

I have noticed that 33570 is not available for online installation in the GUI, should we read something into that? (I did not test the beta-button.)

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

True, I can only have one AP with Ethernet backhaul given my cabling situation. Both my AXE16000 (upstairs now) and an AX88U in the garage do setup their backhauls on the 5 GHz-2 without me intervening. (The cabled AX82U is in the basement, I am considering replacing it with a BE96 at some point.)
