Christmas & Boxing Day 2023 are approaching, how to secure against the IOT app?

@L&LD, I understand the emphasis. Well darn!!! With these mobile apps, it appears we are back to the early days of PC virus. You remember, where you had to have a separate computer and a live CD to do your financial work. Thanks @L&LD & @follower for your feedback.

Christmas & Boxing Day 2023 are approaching, how to secure against the IOT app?

TLDR: What are the best ways to lock down an IOT app on a phone that normally accesses the main home network? This best way is for my edutaiment. For this personal project, what is a moderately effective way to lock down such an IOT app? This way must balance both security and convenience? I...

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

Yes! The duration of support from Asus on models like the AC68U has ruined all of us!!! Factor in the great work of SNB legend john9527, that at one point, allowed many of our wifi5/AC routers to live well past the EOL date of Asus, it is clear to see why OP @stepinstone started this tread...

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

Oh boy, I realized I did not say my opinion is based on an existing functional wifi5/AC router being in the house. If this is true, in my opinion, there is no need for these types of families to spend extra money upgrading to wifi6/AX. They can maintain until there is a need for a new router...

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

Very nice and detailed write-ups @L&LD! I see your point for both commercial use and for families with large homes and many devices. *IF* there is already a functional wifi5 router in the home, for the senior citizen couple, and the recent empty-nester couple, I respectfully maintain wifi5 is...

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

This is interesting. @emilio, in your experience, is OpenWRT on a Pi easier to setup and maintain than pfSense on x86?

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

When things slow down for me, I too will try pfsense. I will use a laptop. I suspect the laptop will consume more energy compared to a home router. Once I prove to myself I can handle pfsense, I will graduate to a pfsense appliance. Thanks for your feedback.

@Tech9, what might you recommend to someone that does not want to use Asus AX products?

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

@sfx2000, it is my view too that wifi5 is good enough for most home users. Can you direct me to sources to help me understand the security risks of using an ancient AC68U with FT? Also sources that describes what a wifi5 user needs to do to harden their network. Thanks.

Looking for a router for the next 10 years - need advice for $200 budget

@Tech9, 1. How might I learn more about commercial routers that offer great value to the end-user? 2. Can you recommend a few of these devices? Thank you.

Questions related to Asus warranty return process & with AX router

@OzarkEdge , @Yota , @RMerlin and @L&LD , thank you for your quick responses, especially to a fairly long post. OE, Asus is doing what RMerlin stated, an Advanced Replacement. I must return the old router within 14 days of receiving it to avoid the $300 charge. Yota, I am concerned about...

Questions related to Asus warranty return process & with AX router

I have an AC68U that needs to be repaired. Asus states it is under warranty, I need to send it back to them for a replacement. Can anyone that has used the Asus warranty process and is familiar with the Asus AX routers, help me with these questions? I regret this message is so long. You can just...
