    At least I can reuse the 610 as my other 2.4 band:-) If the ASUS serves as my 2.4 n band, then I need a 2.4 g band for my 3G smartphone. I found out that it doesn't see the router in mixed mode.

    I know why it won't work. It seems all of the new laptops have sucky wireless cards in them. They support b/g/n, but not the 5GHz band because it doesn't support 'a' too. So if you want to make sure your new laptop will work in the 5GHz band, make sure it is a/g/n, otherwise you are stuck...

    5Ghz band not found I bought the ASUS thinking my Linksys wrt610n was too old. The 5GHz band was only being seen by my 5 yr old Dell laptop. So I bought this ASUS and same thing happens. None of my 3 less than 3 month old laptops can see the 5 GHz channel. Seems I wasted my money on this...
