I wonder how will the custom firmware change when ASUS releases its black knight skin version of its firmware for the rt-n56u.

Also, is does the custom firmware have the same GUI as the original ASUS firmware?

If black appear. Padawan custom firmware will also be black. Now they are so as much fun blue

Bonjour

Does anyone else have problems with bonjour? Just after a reboot, all bonjour devices on the network are fine (I'm on Padavan's firmware), but with time, discovery ceases and soon not a single bonjour device on the network can see anything else. Any settings I need to review?

I do not think Asus will. There is limited flash space for the 56U.

Yes.

I would really like to get WOL to work.

What steps have you taken for it to work? I am meaning: do you have the BIOS set for PME? Do you have the NIC configured to wake on particular packets, if it is capable? Also, is port forwarding configured for the host(s)? Note, when forwarding do not set the local port, only set the range and the protocol type. These steps need to be configured along with the already disable green function of the layer 2 ASIC.

Truonk, I finally had a chance to test WOL this morning, and it does not work with the proper settings. I will pass the word up to Padavan and see what happens.

Edit: I could actually be wrong. I need to do one more test. Very simple, but my time is limited for now. I will get to this ASAP.

I swear I got a performance boost of 10Mbits when I upgraded to the custom firmware. Heck, I didn't even need the speed boost, but I like to keep my router's firmware up to date as there's always performance boost gains and most importantly, fixes for bugs and such things.

Try to disable GreenEthernet

Harsh132, your on the Russian IXBT forums. What are you doing over here :)? Actually, if you read my previous posts about WOL I am pretty well informed of what to do :):

However, just as Trunok informed me in his post that even with Green Ethernet disabled in 3 minutes he cannot perform WOL. Which is exactly as I was not able to do.

One thing that I did not do is really test it, previously. I only configured the switch toggle and then tried with no response from host after 3 minutes. This time i tired different variations of time, ports, whatever to make sure nothign was done wrong.

So trust me, it does not work either at all, fully, or some permutation of does not work.

Yes, we have the same problem. Not yet vanquished. And here I am reading what you rakes having

What are the WAN to LAN, LAN to WAN and LAN to LAN (all wired) speeds of the router with the Padawan firmware, does anybody know ?

I'm looking at either 56U or 66u but I don't really care about the wireless as the router will sit in a cupboard and I have Engenius EAP9500 on each floor.

I have a 200mb Fibre internet connection (I may increase it) and gigabit running to every room in the house so wired performance is key for me.

of course, if anyone knows of a better wired router. let me know.

Had a trivial question. What is the optimium setting, HW NAT on or OFF, and how do you enable/disable this? I loaded the new firmware but do not see a simple on off for HWD NAT, though didn't dig thoroughly. Glad to see someone custominzing this firmware.

Is there a tutorial on all the functions available through telnet into the router(I assume you can?)

Thanks

Hi, I have an HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus wireless printer and been having these problems as well. It looks like everything works fine if both the printer and macs use N 2.4 GHz. As soon as I switch to 5GHz the printer can't connect. HP and ASUS support were useless ...

One work-around is to connect to the printer with HP JetDirect using the printer's IP address. I can print this way, but scanning doesn't work.

Also, I can't use the "Scan to PC" feature on the printer if the wi-fi encryption (WPA2-Personal) is turned on. It works just fine if I turn it off. I'd appreciate any help with these issues....

Problem with latest Padava firmware?

This morning before work I uploaded the latest custom firmware from Padavan: 1.0.1.7f-p10_4. When I got home, I could not connect to the internet, even after resetting the modem and router. The Windows troubleshooter said there was some problem with the modem or the router. I reloaded the latest Asus firmware 1.0.1.8, and all is well. I was fine with the three prior Padavan releases, including 1.0.1.7f-p10_2. Anyone else have this happen?

Yes, we know about it. Sorry. The next firmware will be possible tomorrow

Changes log (see full changes log in the package):
-------------------------------------------------
- Fixed bug in DHCP client under ISP Beeline (cannot obtain DHCP lease for physical WAN interface).
- Fixed bug 3G modem switch from CD-ROM emulation mode.
- Increased timeout for waiting 3G modem at router start.
- Fixed usage static DNS instead of PPP dynamic DNS for 3G modems, if WAN type = Static IP.
- Added ability for dual-access to ISP LAN and Internet at using 3G modem. NOTE: dual-access allowed
only for WAN type = PPPoE/PPTP/L2TP.
- Added independed region code for WiFi 2.4/5GHz. Region code moved to tab "Wireless - Common" for both
WiFi interfaces. Now region code selectable from combobox.
- Changed modes "Multicast rate" for both WiFi interfaces. Default multicast rate HTMIX/MCS=1 for 2.4GHz
and HTMIX/MCS=8 for 5GHz. Multicast rate control also copied to tab IPTV.
- Added ability for disable NAT-PMP protocol for NAT-UPnP.
- Added custom user script "/etc/storage/start_script.sh" for system tune at start router.

Hi all,
I have a big problem with this router: when I play online at my favourite game (World of Warcraft :) ) I have very high latency, over 1500ms and frequently disconnections from the game... I am sure it's a router problem because if I connect my pc directly to the modem my latency is fixed at 78ms without disconnects at all :(
The problem is also been replicated with a big file download: through the network monitor router web interface, I see some "holes" in the graph.

Have you ever heard about this?

Until yesterday, I have always flashed the latest official firmware by asus, after I have tried the padavan RT-N56U_1.0.1.7f-p10 but the problem still exists.

I have bought this router 3 months ago and all goes fine until last 3 weeks :(
Do you think it's a bugged router?

Tonight I'll try to flash the p11 padavan fw and then some old one's from asus, do you know something else I can do?

Another question is: why I can't go to the internet if I completly disable nat?

Thank you, any help would be very appreciated
Bye

5Ghz band not found

I bought the ASUS thinking my Linksys wrt610n was too old. The 5GHz band was only being seen by my 5 yr old Dell laptop. So I bought this ASUS and same thing happens. None of my 3 less than 3 month old laptops can see the 5 GHz channel. Seems I wasted my money on this ASUS. Anyone know why the 5GHz is a red herring? Does it even exist? I guess only if you have 5 yr old tech.

I set the 2.4Ghz to auto and the 5Ghz to n-only. That way I can maximize performance on the 5Ghz band for my gaming laptops. Then I can put everybody else on the 2.4.

Edit: My 5 yr old laptop sees everything even several that our new laptops can't see. Funny thing is, that laptop only supports g, not n. Yet it sees both of my 5Ghz routers and can connect to them.

I know why it won't work. It seems all of the new laptops have sucky wireless cards in them. They support b/g/n, but not the 5GHz band because it doesn't support 'a' too. So if you want to make sure your new laptop will work in the 5GHz band, make sure it is a/g/n, otherwise you are stuck with the 2.4Ghz band.

The 610 is still a decent router... and the Asus, once the firmware issues have been resolved...

You've hit the nail on the head though with the clients - there's a lot of price pressure in the consumer grade space, and I've seen quite a few laptops with internal WiFi that are nominal at best, B/G and Single Steam N as a default card - if you build to order, some OEM's do offer better cards...

At least I can reuse the 610 as my other 2.4 band:) If the ASUS serves as my 2.4 n band, then I need a 2.4 g band for my 3G smartphone. I found out that it doesn't see the router in mixed mode.
