I'm going to setup a simple & small NAS drive at a family member's home for automated backups. Using software a scheduled FTP, DeltaCopy, CrashPlan, etc.
This is much cheaper than a cloud service and easier/faster to gain access to in case of need for full restore (crash/theft/fire/etc of the local storage).
Looking for suggestions from people who have actually used specific devices they will discuss... please, only recommend if you have hands-on with the device.
I have 2.5" and 3.5" drives I can use if there is a decent, inexpensive, enclosure that is recommended - or I'm cool with buying a ready2go unit too.
Here's the needs & reqs...
320GB to 500GB
must be a true stand-alone NAS able to have IP *required
HTTP access *optional
-- Must NOT require install of any software (windows app/client, etc) other than possibly activeX or java component (e.g. very small install)
FTP access *required
Login Secured with username & password *required
Other standard communication protocols *optional
